That paintjob was actually done in somebody's college colors, if I remember correctly. Not so bad if you think of it that way;
Which college? Hot Dog on Stick Community College? Wienerschnitzel U?

It's not a Dreamcast but here is my cousin's latest N64 paint job.

It looks even nicer in person.
Here is a controller he painted as well:

My horror story: I bought my first Dreamcast December, 1999. Mid-2000 I bought a "smoke" clear shell and carried out the transfer of my Dreamcast's innards. November 2000 I bought Phantasy Star Online and was sucked into the PSO world. A week into playing I had a level 15 hunter and all was good. Until I chose to play late one night during a thunder storm. A power surge occurred, causing my lovely Dreamcast to shoot sparks from the power port and switch off. I tried powering it back up and... nothing!

A week later I bought a used DC with my birthday money and started up PSO, my file was damaged and I had to start all over again. The smoke Dreamcast was smoked, and was stored in the closet... someday I'll remove its guts and give it new life.
Scary photos:
I can't find a larger image, but this was in a kotaku.com article:

Interesting idea, but the sonic logo looks splotchy:
