Yes, yes, and yes. Is he still around? I don't believe I've ever seen a topic of his that related to gaming.Mozgus wrote:Yeah, here's a big NO to both of those suggestions.racketboy wrote:Deleting backlog is bad.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:In my honest opinion we need to delete forum posts that dont recieve a reply within lets say 48 hours. That would limit discutions to things people actually care about. Another good thing I would recommend is restrict each forum to 10 pages max, deleting the backlog. I agree so far with just about everything said in favor of limiting the BST area.
I look up old stuff all the time. Good for people coming in from Google as well.
Oh, forgot to throw this out there. Holaback. Disable his thread making privileges, yes, or yes?

Exactly, there IS in fact a report button to the side of each post marked with an exclamation point. Too bad nobody seems to realize this, I've only done it 5 or 6 times mostly due to spammers, but that button needs to be used by everybody if we are to keep this place spam and obcene free.dsheinem wrote:This.Haoie wrote:Make an off topic forum. Also, I would argue very strongly against any kind of censorship based on content. If someone makes an offensive post/comment, it is the community's responsibility to call them out. Holaback's threads are ridiculous, but knowing his posting history lets me figure out if/how I want to engage him in discussion. If someone starts spewing racism, sexism, etc. in their post, I have the responsibility as a community member to call them on it. They are ultimately damaging their own reputation, not that of the boards.

Good call RyaN. No need to get all Big Brother. We should all make it our responsibility to make this a place worth hanging out.

No censorship, short of outright racism or if al Qeda starts using the board. An OT forum might not be a bad idea. Don't get too hung up on moving everything old, as dsheinem said. Just focus on very recent stuff and let it grow going forward.

Yeah, the report button is a small exclaimation mark which doesn't really jump out at you as something useful. I've also other forums that have a biohazard symbol. I personally think if the button just said "Report Post" on it then more people would use the feature.

I've taken care of some reported ones. It is helpful.MrPopo wrote:Yeah, the report button is a small exclaimation mark which doesn't really jump out at you as something useful. Just most people don't use it

Yeah, that's what I was trying to get across. It's useful, but I don't think most people realize it's there.

I admit that I completely forgot about the report button until you guys just reminded me. Perhaps some text on the button would not be as flashy, but would make people use it more if needed.MrPopo wrote:Yeah, that's what I was trying to get across. Welcome to Slashdot. "Just get Linux, dude."
And to follow up on an earlier sentiment.
I think mods do have a responsibility for content, but I'm wary about where that line should be drawn. Part of it comes down to what standard the owner/administrator of the site (Racketboy) sets forth, and then mods have to use their best judgment within those standards. Whatever kind of site Racketboy wants the mods are responsible for helping to deliver.

Poster1: Hi, can anybody explain to me how to get the broadband working on my Gamecube? Thanks!
Poster2: Why would you want to? Just get a Wii.
I see these kind of unhelpful posts all the time, and they really bug me.
