What was the last movie you've seen?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I must say I am not a huge Tom Cruise fan anymore (even though I love Top Gun from the 80's) but I still enjoy the Mission Impossible movies. I went to see the fourth one over the weekend and must say it definatly is the best in the series after the second one. Was a good balance of action, comedy and mystery and I always enjoy movies that return all previous cast members from the previous film if they are going to talk about that character in the film. Check it out.

Um... the 2nd was atrociously horribly terribly bad. Even for John Woo.Veriz wrote:...the best in the series after the second one.

Lol, well I do say this based off just memory alone. When it came out I was a lot younger maybe I should go watch it again to see how it has aged with me.

The best MI "movie" is probably the 4th. The second is completely dismal and dumb. The story is as thin as a hotel sheet, there isn't really any mission, and it's a Cruise fest where nothing is impossible.
4 Gives a fresh look as it isn't a total stuntman show, and Cruise doesn't have much personal drive on his tasks.
If you like MI:2, no qualms from me; it's all personal opinion. But if you asked the experts who study film, MI:2 is abysmal. That said, you don't need to go to film school to know what you enjoy. And with "that said" being said, I still can't fathom why anyone, even die hard MI fans, would like MI:2, as it is pretty much the lcd of action movies.
(I bet the people who like this movie are googling "lcd" right now).

I don't look to action films for their in-depth plots, show choir songs, gorgeous period backdrops, or emotional scenes / dramatic actors, etc.
That is reserved for pretty much anything but action and comedy.
Comedy should have comedy.
Action should have action.
Pretty straightforward stuff here, not over-indulged art-school critiques. MI isn't supposed to be on par w/Kurosawa - and I think most people get that, the producers definately get that as it made $400million + (NET) not including tv / netflix / dvd / merchandising sales.
It held my attention (for over 2 hours if I recall) and had some well-done action sequences. Thats a good ACTION movie. Not supposed to change your life.

As someone who teaches a course in film criticism, I find the whole MI series to be pretty abysmal by most standards. That doesn't mean the movies can't be fun, but let's not pretend that any of them bring anything worthwhile to the art form...Luke wrote:[ But if you asked the experts who study film, MI:2 is abysmal.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Like I said since MI2 came out in 2000 that would have made me about fifteen at the time (man I feel old now lol). Being younger I just wanted to watch movies with a lot of action and didn't care too much for the story in those kind of movies like I do now that I am older. I am sure if I go back and watch it I could have a completely different feel for the movie now since my feelings are all probably nostalgic about what I remember of it.
