I have 25 games between physical and digital.

My collection stands at about 30 or so physical games at this point. Which is funny because I have 0 Wii Us. :?

The thought of having to call Nintendo support yet again sours me on wanting to get a replacement too. What a pain to get your account back. Can't be bothered at the moment (or the last 6 months for that matter).

People claim Nintendo support is great. And while I'd say they're helpful certainly, they also take ages to get anything done. So much so that when my last one's disc drive decided to stop working I decided I'd rather return it to Best Buy than wait for the replacement.

Edit: Splatoon really does have me itching though. I have many friends playing and I'd be lying if I said it didn't seem incredibly addicting. Also Persona: Fire Emblem edition. 8)

Why is that so hard?

As for number of games required to justify the price of a console, that's not going to be the same for everyone. How expensive is the console? Will the games you want be easily available and/or cheaper later? Just how badly do you want to play the exclusive games in question?

For me, the answers to each of those questions makes Wii U seem like a reasonable investment once you hit 10+ exclusive games you want to play. It's easily the cheapest console on the market so I don't feel I need to own as many games to justify the cost of the console, Nintendo first-party games don't tend to drop significantly in price over time (and sometimes become hard to find, if you buy physical) so waiting for the console to be defunct is less important, and Nintendo first-party games tend to provide some of the highest-rated games from each generation so my desire to play them is relatively high.

Obviously others are free to disagree with that assessment, and some obviously do.

Good points. And to answer what you found was your cap, I didn't have 10+ physical release exclusives as I had a good selection of third party games. COD Ghosts, Resident Evil, Rayman Legends, and NFS Most Wanted U. Exclusively I didn't like ZombiU or Super Luigi U so I ditched them, did have Nintendoland, SMBU and SMB 3D World, Wind Waker HD(still have GC game), Game & Wario, Pikmin 3, and DKC Tropical Freeze.

That's all I had. Smash Bros I got on 3DS and have barely touched it, just lost interest, and I sold it a little after Mario Kart 8 arrived and I wasn't going to buy that either. I have no idea why I got Pikmin 3 either, I never played it after checking out how the controls work which I didn't care for so I stick with Pikmin 2. DKC was a gift as I'm not sure I would have bought it as the 3DS game wasn't that fun to me. All the other games I had no interest in or had them on PS3. Along with the couple games I said I'd have bought coming still, that's how my entire line-up of had and was interested shaped up. I'm not fight picking or being picky and over critical, it's just what I cared about and that's all.

Just for fun.... we discussed this earlier on, but now that more games are announced, I will ask again. Do you think a list of top 10 Wii U games will beat a top 10 list of Wii Games?

Right now? No. And I don't think it ever will. I do think it's on par with the Gamecube and could easily pass it in my esteem.

I'd certainly say it's already surpassed the GameCube. It definitely can't surpass the Wii though by any measure.

Say what you will about the controller and the graphics but at the end of the day, the original Wii just had such an insane volume of awesome games that the Wii U can't hope to touch. Wii U has quite a few awesome games but doesn't have the variety required to make it better in the eyes of most.

With that said the Wii U's value is tremendously increased in my eyes by the backwards compatibility. Rivals the PS2-1 library in terms of number of awesome games. I could probably, outside of 3rd party online games, be busy with the library for at least a decade if I cared to be.

I'm sure opinions will vary, but I think that (for me, right now) Wii is clearly ahead of Wii U for a top 10 list and Wii U is clearly ahead of GameCube.

I also think that it's possible Wii U will end up ahead of Wii - it depends on how good some upcoming exclusives like Xenoblade and Fatal Frame and Zelda end up being - but if the list gets any bigger then Wii regains it's advantage. For example, if looking at overall top 20 there would be no competition because the Wii library is so much larger and more diverse.

Of course, you can argue that full backwards compatibility gives Wii U an advantage because (for me) Wii+Wii U is greater than Wii+GameCube... but I don't think that's what the question is asking.

Some estimates, related to prior discussion:

Right now I own roughly 30 retail Wii U games, half being console exclusives. Of those exclusives, I really only care about 10 games. There are 3-4 more exclusive games on the way that expect to enjoy a great deal. I nearly 30 digital games too, but only a couple that are noteworthy and exclusive to the console.

From the non-exclusive games, there are a handful that are supposed to be improved on Wii U compared to other consoles. I don't think it's fair to discount them entirely, although agree that they aren't really "selling points" unless you absolutely need the off-screen play feature.

For me, that plus full backwards compatibility so that I could transfer content off my increasingly flaky Wii was enough to justify spending $200 on the console. (Monster Hunter and the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles game are major factors for me though - literally hundreds of hours of entertainment spent on Monster Hunter and I loved the first Xenoblade enough that I'm expecting the sequel to swallow another 100+ hours...)

To each their own. I have maybe 10 games for the Wiiu, and my wife and I play them more frequently than any other console in the house.

Well we better get started on that defining games and hidden gems articles a year or two ahead of time. That and the what's on yr shelf thread too. The Wii U is certainly dying and it'll be retro here in no time! :-P

Seriously, it's a great system and I only own 9 games. There's many more that I'd love to own but I don't justify a purchase unless I know I'm going to sit down and play it entirely in a fair amount of timespan. No backlogs here for this guy anymore.
