And personally for me, if I can't find at least 20 games I'd keep for a system once I move onto the next I'd enjoy going back to, I don't keep it.
Ok, I assumed you were discussing this because of what ZeroAX was asking. He didn't mention he was looking for a system for sustained releases, only that he was wondering if he should wait because of a chance of backward compatibility with the NX.
No matter what though I doubt it will have Wii compatibility, so if someone also wants to play Wii games and doesn't have a Wii it is a great value and has way more than 20 games that most people would enjoy playing. Maybe not you of course as you have spoken in great detail of your disdain for the Wii and all things "waggle".

It causes me distress when people dismiss the Wii out of hand due entirely to the games in its library that require the 'waggles'. The Wii is on a tier with the Super Nintendo in terms of having a massively playable library of games that will age with grace throughout the years. That the WiiU has such an incredibly perfect backwards compatibility feature with Wii games is reason enough to buy it.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

No offence, but I don't understand this point. Why does this matter? That would mean you shouldn't buy any old consoles because there's no support and no new games. He has never owned a Wii U, so there are plenty of amazing games to keep him entertained during these staggered releases. Plus, it's not like the Wii U has to be his only console, so he could be enjoying releases on other consoles whilst Wii U has its dry spells.
Own: Sega Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PS Vita, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Xbox 360

Damn, I only own 12 SNES games. I guess I better buy some new games quick or I'm going to have to sell it all!

agreed i think i have more wii games than ps3 at this point, lots of hidden jems.
I'm confused. * tanooki claims there aren't enough games and buying now is a bad decision. Fine: tanooki shouldn't buy. * ZeroAX claims there are a bunch of games he really wants to buy and that a Wii U looks like an attractive proposition. Fine: it's probably a good (or at least reasonable) idea to buy in and start enjoying those games.
Different people, different results, and yet everyone ends up happy. Why is that so hard?
As for number of games required to justify the price of a console, that's not going to be the same for everyone. How expensive is the console? Will the games you want be easily available and/or cheaper later? Just how badly do you want to play the exclusive games in question?
For me, the answers to each of those questions makes Wii U seem like a reasonable investment once you hit 10+ exclusive games you want to play. It's easily the cheapest console on the market so I don't feel I need to own as many games to justify the cost of the console, Nintendo first-party games don't tend to drop significantly in price over time (and sometimes become hard to find, if you buy physical) so waiting for the console to be defunct is less important, and Nintendo first-party games tend to provide some of the highest-rated games from each generation so my desire to play them is relatively high.
Obviously others are free to disagree with that assessment, and some obviously do.

How dare you approach a conversation with a rational demeanor? Don't you know where you are? This is the INTERNET, not some upscale institution run on logic and reason. I am offended at the mere thought that you could come in here and take such a stance. The Wii U is garbage and not worth purchasing for anything and clearly you know I am joking right?
I love you.
