My biggest problem with the original Mortal Kombat is that is just wasn't a very good fighting game. Poor gameplay balance, poor control response, and poor mechanics. The blood n' guts did freak me out as a kid, though.

I think that the reason I played Mortal Kombat as a little boy was because I wasn't allowed too. I saw Senate hearings on TV wherein "experts" testified how awful this game was for children. I went down to the arcade the very next day to waste all my quarters on Mortal Kombat.
