No Pods doesn't need its own board, but other than that it looks perfect

OK guys, final answer: one board, and you post your highest score. If someone isn't getting as good of a score without auto-fire, then they turn it on. If someone is sucking at smart pods, get fixed pods. It's not like we're not explaining what we use when we post a score.

1. How do yo expect Ty to turn on auto fire when he is playing the pcb? He should be excluded from the competition because he happens to own the original board but no auto fire circuit? What about those of us using a Mame build that does not support auto fire? Its not as simple as just "turn it on" like it is for those of you playing it on CCC2.o.pwuaioc wrote:OK guys, final answer: one board, and you post your highest score. I recall us separating Dodonpachi scores based on port accuracy. Never did we tell players, "We are only using one board, if you can't score as well in the Saturn mode, then play it in Mame"
2. Yes, we should be explaining what we use when we post a score. It would be caveman-like to just post: Dunpeal2064 - score. It is very much common practice in shmup competitive play to include the stage you reached, the type of ship you used, and yes, whether or not you use auto fire.

I'd say split it between auto-fire and no auto-fire, and if one region has a great difference (i.e. checkpoints vs. respawn), then make that a board as well.
So that would make 4 separate boards to keep track of.

I wouldn't put up a JP-region board until someone posts a score for it. So, Auto and No Auto would suffice for now, and really wouldn't be that difficult to implement.
Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2013 (Varth)
No offense, but this is borderline silly for friendly shmup competition. It seems that the "auto-fire" in the Capcom Collections is the issue here, but there's really no auto-fire available in them; at least, I don't see an option for it. What is enabled by default is a roughly 3-secend rapid-fire (a rate that's easily achieved without it) and any advantage that might be gained in tapping the button 1/10 the number of times someone without the rapid-fire would, is in my opinion, lost once you consider that if one loses the firing rhythm, and holds the button too long in a particularly tense situation, the ship stops firing.
Come on guys, is a 1-2,000 point difference in scores really so big of a deal as to shun the rapid-fire users into a separate scoring table?

That 3-second auto-fire is just the standard rate of fire. However, auto fire actually shoots faster than the game's built in auto fire. When playing the game, try to tap the button as fast as possible. Its very clear that you shoot faster than holding will allow you to.pierrot wrote:No offense, but this is borderline silly for friendly shmup competition. This makes certain things, like killing the stage 4 boss within a 2 second frame for 1/3 the amount of points you might have up to that point, much different for those that have auto fire, and those that don't. By the way the point difference from this boss ALONE is 300k points, the difference is much greater than 1-2k overall.
Odd that the people coming in here to argue against having two boards have not submitted any scores, but I will agree that this is all just silly. I thought an even play field would be a good thing, but apparently its so much to ask for TWO fucking score boards to be put up.
At least we know that, if we want people to come in and post here, all we have to do is stop playing shmups and argue a bit. Everyone seems willy nilly to jump on that.
Do what you guys like.
