I think their behavior is understandable. One of the things Skyler promised when she started laundering Walt's money was that she wouldn't testify against him.
And she knows that the police would assuredly confiscate all of the money and property associated with it, which includes the house and car wash. She'll never be able to rekindle her relationship with Ted. At best Hank & Marie will be very very patient about letting her and the kids live with them (and I imagine everyone would eventually be at each other's throats in that situation). I think she knows that if she gets caught, it's going to permanently damage her chances at living a normal life.
There's no saying that she will remain protective of Walt, but I think it's very believable that she would put be super-defensive for now.

I would imagine having her sister slap her hard and try to steal her baby didn't exactly endear Skylar to Hank/Marie's side either
Jesus Marie, the baby's not silverware you can steal you crazy b****

Can I just say how awesome it was to see a Scrooge McDuck reference on Breaking Bad like a week after Ducktales Remastered was released?

Edward Snowden killed it for me. Now I have a tough time watching the show wondering why the NSA didn't turn them over to the DEA.

So Anna Gunn, who plays Skyler White wrote a New York Times op-ed about the hate her character gets.
I've been outside the "larger" discussion of the show, only talking to a few people about it since I haven't been caught up until a few weeks ago. I had no idea Skyler was such a hated character and I found this pretty surprising! I think she adds a lot to the show.

When you have Saul's lackeys decide not to steal Walt's money because he, "had ten guys murdered in 2 minutes" it makes viewers think, "Walt's a badass!". Same thing with the, "Hello Carol" scene in the flash forward
Some people like badass villains
From the start, Vince Gilligan has talked about turning Walt from Mr. Chips into Scarface. Everyone loves Pacino's Scarface, even if his end is inevitable and he's largely loathsome: he's escapism par excellence.
Note to self: Watch Scarface again soon.

So that "what if" actually happened. What a torturous was to end the episode.

Every episode from the end of last season through to this one has ended in a tortuous way. I expect nothing less. But...Ziggy587 wrote:So that "what if" actually happened. What a torturous was to end the episode.

I feel like I was right on the money about Skylar and her motivations
