Yeah, I think that's the downfall of a lot of current games - they sacrifice camp/character for "realism". Dammit, I don't care how shiny my games are, as long as they're fun and they stay true to themselves.

I love this cartoon because I can't decide if it is depressing (we're marketed to and expected to believe that material possessions will make us happier, though we know they ultimately do not); or whether it is uplifting (happiness is readily available outside of material possessions, though they are fun little baubles to have. You don't need much to be happy.).

The original Mortal Kombat seemed pretty realistic back when it was released. It's certainly more realistic now though, which makes it harder to enjoy as something campy. The humor has gone from dark to pitch black.
