Get a new slim PS3. Wouldn't take my chances on a used BC compatible system at this point. Get a cheap PS2 for PS2 games. PS4 is a $400 Blu-ray player.

That might be the best option. I'm figuring now is the time to hit up all the PS3 stuff, seeing as it is about time for all the prices to start dropping. I probably would have grabbed one earlier, if PS3 games hadn't consistently been higher than 360 games.

Yeah, totes go with a slim. PS3 games (and 360, for that matter) are hitting a real sweet spot for prices about now, so you're gonna have a great time picking up tons of stuff on the cheap.

I can't really decide though, because I want to catch up on all the PS3 stuff I missed while picking up all the good exclusives on 360, but I don't want to be behind going into the next generation...
I'd also say slim PS3. BCs are hot, loud, and YLOD-prone.

If you plan to get PS+ (and you should), strongly consider swapping a larger HDD in before you have much, if any data on it to transfer.

PS3 games tend to be great to grab used and cheap. They've got the standard Blu-ray scratch resistant coating on them, so most are smudged at worst. The cases are sturdier to boot, and don't have the scores of different cheap variants that 360 and Wii games seem to. Almost nothing is region protected either.

Great time to be buying games for it.

Agree with everything here except the remark about PS4.

At this point, with the online communities for last gen's games drying up PS3 really is the best choice now. The greater emphasis on single-player is great.

I'm just hopping that the thing about ps3 doesn't signal the trend that people who grew up ps2 go to collecting it....at least I've got a decent amount but I guess it might be time to hurry before trends switch somehow >_>

logic says that digital releases, faster internet speeds, hd-remakes, convenience, emulation, and upcoming streaming services like PS Now and OnLive should make retro games prices much cheaper.

Yet I kind of swear that prices of retro games back in 2007/08 was much cheaper. It is not rare to get NGC game from $20-30 now. RE3 for Dreamcast is around the $15-$30 price range, Yikes! I think the only console that still has cheap prices is PS 2.

Don't you think that, in general, in a post-apocalyptic world there would be me a lot less ammo and fuel and people would be a lot more concerned about just finding food and shelter? Video games never seem to get this.
