The Thing (2011)

It wasn't terrible, but what's the point?

it's a prequel. The point is to show you the events leading up to John Carpenter's film.

Bah. It's a cheap cash-in of one of the best horror films of the 80s.

HOLY SHIT:

The guy literally asks "why should kids be exposed to this?" considering the Muppet movie and claims that everything from the Muppets to lame ass Captain Planet brainwashes children into hating capitalism and corporations. And there is not a single damn sentence in the discussion that is "Orwellian".

I'm hard pressed to think of any character villain who isn't out for greed, lust, revenge, or money. Well, there is Nolan's Joker, Hannibal Lecter, the Alien from Alien...okay, not every villain seeks greed, but the majority do, especially in a kids film.

Of course, that was Jim Henson's plan all along! He didn't want to make entertainment, he wanted to BRAINWASH people!

Reminds me of that time I found a blog post that was insisting that The Powerpuff Girls was actually extreme-right propaganda.

This stuff is generally pretty damn silly. Yeah I can understand art being reflective of the viewpoints of its creator(s), but come on. There's a difference between that and claiming that its outright propaganda.

Ever notice that when someone's trying to claim that something like this is propaganda, it's always the political alignment they disagree with that's trying to indoctrinate people?

What is so hilarious is that the collective writing team did want to brainwash kids...into meeting the Muppets! Why anyone would put a political spin on the movie saying it gives the message that "capitalism is bad and price gouging is good" mystifies me.

I think it's just another way to demonize the opposing political alignment. LOOK AT HOW EVIL THOSE DAMN CONSERVATIVES/LIBERALS ARE! NOW THEY'RE TRYING TO BRAINWASH CHILDREN!

I'm at an occupy protest right now and, trust me, there are no Muppets here.
