I felt much the same about any of the PS systems outside of PS3. Didn't like the system, didn't care of the non dualshock original or the wonky layout of the PS4 version either. PS2 was a frail princess that decided to slowly die the first time I had one just from light to moderate use. It was the games and only the games that had me put up with it, and as it is now 1 & 2 are gone and PS4 is now a blu ray/streaming movie player only.

A few more PS2 survival horror / spooky exclusives:

Galerians: Ash
Hungry Ghosts (Japan import)
Lifeline
Michigan: Report from Hell (UK import)
Phase Paradox (Japan import)
Resident Evil: Dead Aim
Resident Evil Outbreak
Resident Evil Outbreak File #2
Shadow Hearts
The Fear (Japan import)
Trapt
Vampire Night (only console to get this arcade port IIRC)

The PS2 is amazing. The library is so huge there is literally something for everybody.

There is no way you've played this... have you? I thought I was the only one in the world recently to play the PSX game. So I got Ash to check out sometime. Looks about as bizarre as it gets.

You guys should note that survival horror can be an expensive endeavor on the PS2 though sadly. Ack's list there based off Amazon comes to roughly $687.

I'll just have to emulate some of this stuff sometime. I still need to pickup the Greatest Hits release of Silent Hill 2 as well, since it supposedly has some graphical improvements and extra stuff.

I've played it. I have no idea what I was doing in it and did not get very far as a result, hence my not mentioning it.

As for the prices, yeah, some of the exclusives can get pricey...or really pricey in a few places. Rule of Rose alone is about a third of the total price you mentioned, and Kuon has shot up out of nowhere while Haunting Ground has always tended towards being on the expensive time. But there are some cheap options too, like Siren, Extermination, and Ghosthunter.

Wow, I'll definitely try and track some of these down! I played Haunting Ground and dug it a lot, same with Siren (on PS3). I've played those RE games and I can't say I care for them, same with Clock Tower and Fatal Frame.

If you must, try jumping to Fatal Frame 2. I replayed the first two a year or two back, and 2 is still absolutely amazing and one of the best in the genre I'd say. Even I can admit the first game has not aged well, it was a bit of a slog. 2 is very refined in comparison.

I haven't gotten far because the invisible floors pissed me off but I might play the hacked version that makes those visible someday. It's the last console 2D Castlevania I need to beat!

I'll be honest man, I bet I'll agree with you. The tiny bit I played at least felt awesome, gameplay wise, graphics, music, etc. I really can't say I cared too much for 1 or 3 to be honest. I didn't grow up on them so there's no nostalgia. I think the 16bit games are just way way better, Bloodlines, Rondo of Blood, Super IV, and Chronicles on the PSX if you want to count it, are all incredible in my book.
