I'd argue even her "country" pop stuff was much more pop than country. What passes as country on the radio now is atrocious...

Gotta admit I agree....too many party songs in my opinion that have way too much other genres mixed in. At least there are a few decent ones that don't go as far as others like Kenny, band perry, and Lady A

None of those you listed cut it for me. Not that they are bad music, just not very country by my standard.

I listen to some of this "radio country", but I don't call it or consider it country. Most of my tastes on the popular end sits with the Texas stuff, which doesn't get much radio play most places, if at all.

Yeah it just stinks that most of the country artists I enjoyed when I was younger have gone the side of doing stuff that really has gone off the deep end to where it doesn't make sense to be called country. Of course we do have radio stations where they use people's opinions to pick what plays more or less often and apparently the stuff that airs more on the pop-y side of things is picked by those who love pop instead of country...weird...

TRS-80 is awesome. I think it's kinda down to just 1 guy now. Releases up through the 2006 one Mystery Crash are great stuff at least.

The majority of "county" stations are owned by the same two companies, I believe Clear Channel is one of them, and they push the more poppy stuff because it is catchy and made with the intention of getting stuck in your head to sell records. The whole Nashville scene also has a small pocket of writers writing the majority of songs that popular artists pick up, thus part of the problem with all the party songs and such that plague everything right now. Its the same with rap stations, many of them play the poppy stuff rather than what someone like me would expect from a rap station.

The more traditional country doesn't get radio play or sell tickets all that well, and everything else that isn't pop country or straight traditional is picking up more rock, blues, or blue grass influence, which further keeps it from gaining traction.
