I got "Scum" today. They are awesome. Cytotoxin's "Plutonium Heaven" also came but I haven't had a chance to listen yet.AppleQueso wrote:That Napalm Death is fantastic. Scum is awesome. I think From Enslavement to Obliteration is the essential Napalm Death album though.
Most of the grindcore I like is the crusty political stuff. Napalm Death, Nasum, Fear of God, Unholy Grave, Agathocles, etc...

The first two Napalm Death albums (Scum and FETO) are absolute classics, Harmony Corruption is pretty great and I like Utopia Banished well enough. Most of the 90s albums (Fear, Emptiness, Despair through roughly Words From the Exit Wound) are decentish but mostly forgettable and nowhere near as good as the earlier stuff. They really got back on track with The Code is Red I think and have been putting out seriously kick-ass material ever since.
I really love crusty stuff. I'm especially a fan of any sort of good death metal/grindcore mix. Brutal Truth, Necroticism-era Carcass, modern Napalm Death, arguably early Bolt Thrower if that counts, etc. Swedish Death Metal too (Entombed, Dismember, Unleashed, you know all that stuff), since a lot of it rose out of the Swedish crust punk scene anyway.

I'm not a big fan of thrash, but I FINALLY got around to buying Slayer's "Reign In Blood".
They're really the only thrash band I like, honestly.

Iced Earth is one of my all-time favorite bands. The Dark Saga (Spawn themed), Something Wicked This Way Comes (Gospel themed, but not Christian worship music), and Horror Show (Monster themed) are their best albums, IMO.TheBrick wrote:Decided to buy Burnt Offerings. Yeah, I am inclined to agree with you there BurningDoom, though I never really thought of Something Wicked This Way Comes as Gospel themed, that's an interesting description. I would add though that while Burnt Offerings and Glorious Burden don't rank among the band's best albums, they do feature some of their most epic tracks. Dante's Inferno and the Gettysburg Trilogy are heavy metal masterpieces. They are worth the price of those albums aloneBurningDoom wrote:Iced Earth is one of my all-time favorite bands. The songs in Something Wicked This Way are the story of Jesus, that's about as Gospel as it gets.Gamerforlife wrote:Yeah, I am inclined to you with there BurningDoom, though I never really thought of Something Wicked This Way Comes as Gospel themed, that's an interesting description.
