And, I hate to be that guy, but it rounds about to another story similar to one in the comics. They really need to take it in a new direction or something, and keep the writing like it is at the high points. The story is too stale, and the prison is boring me all to tears. Just finish this Governor story and end it.

Having read the comics I kind of knew what was about to happen. The fact they already showed him spying on the camp was evidence enough. They just wanted to show some backstory so when he showed up the audience wasn't wondering who and wtf was going on with the governors new people.

My favorite "You've got to be kidding me" moment was when one of the new guys basically blurts out of no where "I can drive a tank". Oh! How convenient!

Next week is the mid-season finale, so I'm expecting a wallop of cliffhanger. I'm going to guess that by the end of the next episode more time will have passed and the Governor has assembled a new, small but rather efficient, army. Cue shot of a tank and army going to the prison, tank hatch opens, Governor reveals he's in the tank, end scene.

I like the source material and characters and atmosphere, but the writing is really hit or miss and falls into some standard episodic tv trappings.

Characters often don't act realistically or logically but do things to artificially advance some plot point.
not sure why the governor killed Martinez. That felt forced. Plus no one heard him screaming in that fairly well populated camp?

Well, this team of writers certainly pumped the brakes two weeks ago. I haven't checked the credits, but I wouldn't be surprised if a different team is handling this arc.
The Governor targets the weak and people who try to be moderators. He wants a group of people who will follow him without question. Martinez definitely seemed like a level headed moderator.

The writers made it seem like he killed him because he offered to 'share the crown' and let him lead. Governor was scared of attaining power and becoming the person he used to be. He was just trying to be a family man. That was a big overreaction though. I think they couldve come up with a better reeason to kill Martinez for the rest of the dominos to fall into place.

No he wasn't, and no he wasn't. He was/is trying to earn the trust of his new group to gain access of their arsenal. He's a loon hell bent on revenge and playing everyone like a piano.

If his goal was revenge from the start, the actor certainly didn't play it like that. Falling into that camp didn't seem intentional at all. Towards the end it was clear where things were going, but there were moments of him alone where he clearly didn't have his head in the revenge game.

That said, they've basically just killed a half of season getting us back to exactly where we were in season 3's finale. Governor is attacking the prison, but based on the preview of next week's episode, there will actually be a fight this time. It's almost as if they realized their season 3 buildup ended with a fizzle and they had to quickly find a way to redo it.

I'll wait to see the finale, but based on the preview, I have some serious reservations about the plausibility of him getting that group to march to war so quickly, and for him to think his 3 days of planning this attack with 12 people will somehow be better than the half season of planning he did with his 30 person army.

You forget that they got a random tank driver from absolutely nowhere...

Weird things i noticed was it was like supply team turned their backs for 5 minutes and a whole camp is slaughtered and supplys gone. They walked like 20 feet. Then they pack up their shit to get out, run into the mud zombies and head back. Fuck it we can't go another direction or anything. But i'm interested to see how it plays out. Maybe some girl on girl action. Just all the sudden you them as a couple, no setup there either.
