That series should have been named "The protagonist is fucked". Really, is there anything that hasn't happened to him?sabrage wrote:Luther.

I keep hearing good things about Sherlock and Being Human, especially Sherlock. That show's getting a lot of good buzz everywhere. I haven't watched either one of them though. I've heard some good things about Ultraviolet, a TV series about vamps that was rather short lived.dsheinem wrote:So does anyone else watch Downton Abbey? I have about 3 episodes left in Season 2 (the most recent season) and so far it is easily some of the best TV I've seen this decade.
It makes me wonder what other hidden gems may be lurking on 21st Century British TV in the drama genre. I am pretty good with keeping up on at least some British comedy and don't know what sci-fi exists outside of Dr. Who, but British drama is a big blind spot for me.
If you know about Doctor Who I assume you've seen Torchwood. It's very hit and miss, but the tail end of season 2 was pretty good and the brilliant "Children of Earth" miniseries hit the show's creative peak IMO. They had another season after that and it was a bit of a mess. If for nothing else, the show's worth it for Children of Earth

I find it hilarious how unrealistic that show is. There's so little that actually compares to Midland that I can't help but laugh.Gamerforlife wrote:So I'm giving Friday Night Lights a shot. It's a show I would never have given the time of day, as I don't like football or other sports, and I don't really go for the religious, political views the characters in this show would have. However, I keep hearing how great the show was, and that's coming from other people who I don't think would watch a show like this.

I'm clueless as well. A Scottish friend of mine recommends Sherlock. Have you seen it yet? It's on my list to view.dsheinem wrote: It makes me wonder what other hidden gems may be lurking on 21st Century British TV in the drama genre.

Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
it took several weeks but i actually watched the whole series of LOST - seasons 1-6. fucking brilliant.
i've already seen each season at least once and i've watched the early seasons multiple times. first time, though, i watched it all from beginning to end in one swoop. i must say, when season 6 originally aired i was completely lost. pun intended. it was hard to keep up with the story only being able to watch one episode per week. and i would be amazed if anybody could say they were able to follow what the fuck was going on when season 6 originally aired. but, being able to watch multiple episodes per day made it a lot easier to follow and comprehend. and yes, i cried during the final episode.
i wish the creators could go back and "clean" it up a bit, similar to how stephen king edited the early books in his gunslinger series to keep all shit consistent throughout the books. obviously, that would be impossible. in multiple interviews, the creators have said - maybe not directly - that they basically wrote the story season by season. and it showed. definitely some inconsistencies between seasons. but, all things considering, it is an amazing series and i'll be watching it again in a few more years.
