Actually it does flesh out the further stories of the ToS(GC) characters more as to what they've been up to and in helping in your quest. You seem to end up bumping into and recruiting many of them. So far I've had Colette and she was in my party for awhile in that region, and then I came across Zelos and pissed him off so he walked for the time being, but then I crossed the sea and found Raine and helped her out find some kid so now she's in my party as a healer helping out. You seem to be dogging a supposedly murderous Lloyd but it looks like magic/rouse to blame him for other peoples crap committing atrocities in the name of the church. That's why Zelos got pissed. Collette confused she ends up believing you but wanting to know more, and Raine, not sure yet.
The story isn't weak by any means, really feels like just ToS Chapter 2 instead of some halfassed after thought spinoff. I bought into that garbage from fanboys a few years back when I still had the Wii the first time and never bought it, pissed at those liars as it appears to be a fine game.
I guess it kind of is a bit like Dragon Quest Monsters, but the style in how it's handled is ripped off of SMT by Square, and in this case Namco very well copied that old SMT series in how you handle the monsters right down to having more of a type to increase said powers.
I don't want to debate the rest, but I prefer dubs, and I have since the 90s. Not so much when it comes to actual living actors/situations, but when it comes to animation I'd rather enjoy all the hand done scenery than be reading the whole time as it takes away.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Dubs are definitely visually and intellectually easier to process. I think the people who prefer subtitles are better able to juggle the competing inputs. That said, when I'm really tired, I can't do something with subtitles, but then, I also usually can't focus well on what I'm watching, anyway. But the thing is, if you do it more, you'll get used to it and you won't miss stuff after a while. It's like any skill, really.
I've started using captions/subtitles for all my TV watching, now, so that I don't have to turn the TV volume up and risk some stuff getting too loud. Helps to not disturb the baby.

I prefer having having subtitles even with my native language being spoken. I'll settle for subs, but I always prefer dubs.marurun wrote:Dubs are definitely visually and intellectually easier to process. I like a truly good dub, but that's so unreliable...

Unpopular opinion I may have posted before, but whatever:
There are esxceptions, but I generally prefer linear games to open world ones. I prefer open world games to procedurally generated ones. Basically, the more freedom you give me to do whatever I want and create 'my own experiences' in a game, the less likely I am to enjoy it.
Give me a tightly scripted but awesome linear adventure and I'll take that over a 200 hour world to explore pretty much any day.
I say that despite being 100 hours into Breath of the Wild and loving it, but I was just thinking that despite my enjoyment of the game I still prefer Ocarina, Skyward Sword, Wind Waker etc.

I totally understand the feeling and I usually go back and forth on the topic based on mood. For me, open world works if done right and honestly most don't do it right. If the world is engaging and encourages me to express my gameplay individually and personally, I prefer open world. Let me RP!!!! If you want to let a story be told and the player to experience it the way you want them to... linear is the way to go.alienjesus wrote:Unpopular opinion I may have posted before, but whatever:

I 100% agree with you. I love a guided, carefully crafted story to follow. The amusement-park, big open-world design just gets me burned out so fast. Unless the writing around it is really good (like Fallout or Saints Row), I tend to get bored and just stop playing (like Skyrim). I am not one who cares for out-of-story role-playing in games I play alone. Games with friends? Sure, role-playing can be great fun. Alone, I just don't see the point. Perhaps I'm not creative enough to enjoy games that wayalienjesus wrote:Unpopular opinion I may have posted before, but whatever:

I'm in 99% agreement with the alien there, but bogus is right, there are rare cases where an open world game is done in such a way it's not painful, a slog, you never tire, you can freely express yourself through creativity to the challenge. Breath of the Wild is the only one I can think of that has accomplished this so far.
I prefer non-linearity, a start, a body to it, and an ending and mostly just AN ending, not many with annoying ways to get to it redoing garbage again.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I like open world games as long as there's enough to do. Even of the core story sucks and doesn't make any sense (anything Bethesda since Morrowind), as long as there are other things to do in the world it's OK. I enjoyed just moseying around in Fallout 3, New Vegas, and 4, and also Skyrim. I put tons of hours into them and didn't even bother beating Fallout 4 because I didn't even care (and I shouldn't have cared about 3 or Skyrim). And at least with Bethesda games there are tons of mods to add value.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I've been considering Skyrim when it hits Switch. I'm not sure really Dragon Age Origins counts but I put a few hours (and that's it) on it as I got it back when GoG got it and launched with a big sale too. It was so slow, plodding, and fairly confusing what to really do as it wasn't anything as open as Zelda BOTW has been I just put it down. It wasn't bad, it just did nothing for me at all and I never went back once my save got nuked when my HDD took a dump.
