In the theatre, the last movie I seen was the Ides of March, entertaining but the movie felt like nonsense.

Fight Club is the only example immediately coming to mind where the movie is better than the book.AppleQueso wrote:I think it goes without saying that with 90 percent of all movies based on pre-existing material, the source material is superior.

I'm probably gonna get flamed up and down by someone for this one, but I'm of the opinion that the '80s Dune film with Patrick Stewart and Sting was better than the book. The book was very hard to get through when I tried to read it way back in Jr. high, but I loved the movie. The book just seemed long-winded and overly wordy. Hell, the movie was too I guess. It's nearly 2 1/2 hours long. But for some reason it just clicked with me.Hobie-wan wrote:Fight Club is the only example immediately coming to mind where the movie is better than the book.AppleQueso wrote:I think it goes without saying that with 90 percent of all movies based on pre-existing material, the source material is superior.

Fight Club to me is a rare example of "I can't decide which is better." I love the movie. I love the book. Another one like this is Rules Of Attraction. Oh, and High Fidelity.Hobie-wan wrote:Fight Club is the only example immediately coming to mind where the movie is better than the book.AppleQueso wrote:I think it goes without saying that with 90 percent of all movies based on pre-existing material, the source material is superior.

Tron Legacy's score is fantastic, even as a standalone release. I won't bother with the movie itself however.

I prefer the movie JAWS over the book. The book is great, but a good chunk of the book focuses on an extramarital affair in great detail.Hobie-wan wrote:Fight Club is the only example immediately coming to mind where the movie is better than the book.AppleQueso wrote:I think it goes without saying that with 90 percent of all movies based on pre-existing material, the source material is superior.
That and basically anything written by Chriton (Congo was awful on both mediums). As far as Jurassic Park goes, the book and movie have the same characters, but the book and movie characters are extremely different, as are their fates. The movie does a great job of keeping things succinct, and I appreciate not having to read 50 pages on exactly how the restoration of DNA took place.

From Dusk Till Dawn - I knew pretty much nothing about this movie going in, so I was totally unprepared when the vampires showed up! Still though, it was a fun movie. Will probably watch again sometime. Truth be told though, the thing that suprised me most about it wasn't the vampires, but the fact that the bank robbery that's part of the backstory takes place in Abilene, Texas, which happens to be the city I live in.
Machete - I figured I might as well follow up one Robert Rodriguez movie with another one I've had sitting on my shelf for a while. Man I wish I would've watched this sooner! I totally loved it from beginning to end. Completely over-the-top and entertaining as hell.

I feel like I should pick up Desperado now. I saw a little bit of it YEARS ago, but don't think I've ever actually sat down and watched the whole thing.
