I kind of wish it wasn't perfect emulation. Slowdown is not a rad thing to preserve.

In a good number of games though, the devs realized it was there and programmed assuming it would exist. Meaning if you got rid of it, it would suddenly be a much more challenging game in a lot of cases.

Which is interesting in and of itself I suppose...

That's true, but it also goes the other way.

Admittedly so. I suppose the best answer would be a switch to turn it on/off. I don't know if any emulators have that honestly, ever since expanding into flash carts I've moved away from emus almost entirely.

I think with the PC emulators it kind of does it. There's that auto frameskip, no skip, or pic your frames skipped choices which will mess with the perception of speed. On a real game though when the title is made some may count on their game slowing at points to assist the players, and in others probably just pushed the system too hard. That you really can't change too much unless you remove a frame limiter from an emulator which will allow the game to run at a faster rate than intended.

It'd probably make more sense to change the virtual clock frequency. Your CPU can take the extra gentle nudge.

Well, depends on the game. Some games are very timing-sensitive, and don't take the nudge in clock frequency well at all. Others are a bit more tolerant. For example, check out overclocking a Genesis. For the most part, a lot of stuff works well with a modest overclock, but there are a few games that just don't play nice at all. It's rare on that system, of course, but it's still there.

I have no idea how this affects the GBA, though.

The overclocking would have to be dynamic and based on bandwidth anyway, since the games don't have their own clock. Since you're outside the game itself in an emulator, you can build profiles and all that sort of stuff.

I'm not talking about a catch all solution or anything. It'd just be a nice option to have several techniques to eliminate slowdown if the player wanted. (Or introduce it)

Well I didn't cave in afterall....yet. Here's hoping for a Xenoblade X limited edition.

So when do you guys think we'll see another price drop from nintendo?

When they want there to be another surge in sales. I think, however, they've seen people will buy the console at whatever current price as long as they bolster it with new software, which is what they're doing all throughout 2015.

Currently you can regularly find bundled Wii Us for $250-$260.
