What are some your favorite comic covers of all-time?

I love everything about this cover, the style of the artwork, the angle, the black costume, and subtle reflection of the original costume:

This entire era of Justice League (Justice League America) seems to get overlooked, which isn't entirely unwarranted. I'm a big fan of Jurgens, so I enjoyed his issues on the series, at least.

But this particular story, "Destiny's Hand", was surprisingly good. In the story, the Justice League America is transported to an alternate-reality. In this reality the world's political powers are falling apart and world leaders asked the Justice League to step in and be more pro-active rather than reactive. Since the world was in the condition it was, the Justice League of this reality agrees. This was during their Satellite Years, so it was what many would consider to be the "true" Justice League. But soon the power goes to their head and one small step over the line leads to another and they become a facsist group ruling the world how they see fit.

The Justice League America of our world enters (by accident), and immeadiatley gets their butt-kicked for sticking their nose in this world's Justice League's affairs. Eventually, it's revealed that a villain from our world is behind this and the heroes of our have to put things right again. Plus the secret of Bloodwynd's identity is revealed in this story.

I recommend checking this one out if your a Justice League fan. It slipped under my radar, and I'm glad I got it. The issues are dirt cheap, too. Should be able to find them in the 50 cent bins. It runs from Justice League America #72-75.

it is with a sad face that I post this....

But a legendary comic artist Joe Kubert has passed away.

Image

We've all read or seen at least one of his comics, and his art style was quite the influcence on the newer comic artists of today.

Rest in peace good sir.

Just got the New X-Men by Grant Morrison Omnibus 2nd Edition.

Wow, this thing weighs a ton and is over 1000 pages.

Good to read, or can be used as a cudgel in a pinch.

A sad day in comics. But his legacy will live on forever in the pages of the books he drew and the hearts of the fans he impressed.

It won't be long. Have you seen him lately? He looks ancient.

We still have a few of the old legends around like Roy Thomas, Jim Starlin, and the occasional drop-in from Jim Steranko. But they're getting few and far in-between.

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

Who else read the latest issue? How awesome was that?! It was just one thing after another in that issue, boom, boom, boom, coming right at you! Such an exciting read.

There can be know doubt about this now, Cyclops is basically the new Magneto. He will see that Mutant kind prevails, no matter the cost. Sound familiar?

And, Emma Frost just peeved off (and underestimated) the WRONG mutant. Can't wait to see what happens next when Magneto inevitably confronts Emma Frost.

Plus this whole thing with Hope. I didn't see that one coming. They kept setting it up as if Iron Fist was gonna gain the Phoenix Force, and that was what I expecting. So big surprise, for me at least. And was it just me, or was did the artwork look like there was some orange flame around the "dragon aura" surrounding her body? Like maybe she was still channeling some Phoenix Force at the same time. That might be significant.

I haven't been able to stomach any of this awful fan fiction like writing, but I got off the bus at about issue four. You have to admit the first few issues were awful.

Seems like it has picked up though. Do issues 5-10 make up for 1-4? If so, I'm all in, and excited where the story goes.

Lately with Marvel, the ending of an Event has been poorly executed. CIVIL WAR ended with, well, it didn't. It was a gorgeous comic I'll read over and over, but there is no substance to it.

WWH ended like every Hulk event, and with all the build up the last entry looked God awful. It really does like a kid went over a Hulk comic with a squiggly pencil. It didn't ruin the superior PLANET HULK, but it was a let down.

Back to the topic on hand. Really hope Avengers vs. X-Men pans out for the best. Things haven't seemed the same since House Of M, and that was almost forever ago.
