Steve Vai
I've been meditating, bathing in, and all around absorbing Vai lately. Watching some musicians makes me want to be a better guitarist, but Vai makes me want to be a better person. He just gets it, he is so positive, and has so much fun on stage.
The "Largest Online Guitar Lesson" video really resonates with me. Even if you aren't a fan of Vai's music, I recommend watching it. His approach to doing the things you love is so simple, yet so unique to me.
Guys like him, Zappa, and Belew really push me to better myself all around, through my passions. I love it.
What are you listening to at the present? (genres helpful)

/me pokes at Devin Townsend 'cause the obvious connection there (Steve Vai started his career)dunpeal2064 wrote:Steve Vai

Re: What are you listening to at the present? (genres helpfu
I'll admit, I'm fairly unfamiliar with music in general. I latch onto a few musicians and just go crazy.
... So, I've not listened to much Townsend.
This will change though, because the few songs I have listened to since reading your post were great.
Also <3 @ JT, never run into anyone who rocks the Belew. I adore him. I still remember the first time I saw him (on youtube) performing Waiting Man with King Crimson, in a nice pink suit, with the biggest smile on his face.

I think people just don't realize they like Belew. He's recorded with many famous musicians. King Crimson, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Talking Heads, Paul Simon, Joe Cocker, and the list goes on. I love his solo work too though. Albums like Young Lions and Inner Revolution have such a quirky happiness to them. They're fully charming. I also like how experimental he can be as a musician. I saw him perform live about 10 years ago and he was performing by himself with a looping machine and he would come up with this amazing multi-layered guitar tracks that he would improvise through. He's very friendly too. Quite an amazing musician.dunpeal2064 wrote: Also <3 @ JT, never run into anyone who rocks the Belew. I adore him. Elton John - Crocodile Rock
Heh don't judge, the man sounds amazing(but mostly in his younger years since most of the newer stuff especially live geez either they screwed some sound up or the concert audio recorded for youtube stinks really badly

As the self-proclaimed biggest Elton John fan on the forums, I approve of your music selection but disapprove of your dispersions on Elton's newer stuff. He's put out high quality releases throughout his career, and there are a few albums from the past ~10 years that I'd rank as easily on par with some of his 70s records.darsparx wrote:If we're talking adrian belew then heck yeah! Well i just mean it's a big shock when you go from watching the original version of "I'm still standing" to the million dollar piano version. A BIG shock, you can tell he's aged but darn it if all the stuff I try to listen to on youtube didn't have crappy audio after the change from young elton to older elton...
(which i really need to get some of him and more female artists....good lord he's a nice break from all the other male artists I have on my phone....after the car maintenance is done I need to weed out tracks I won't listen too so I have room for more music...)

David Lynch. Apparently he sings too. He sounds like Kermit the Frog doing a David Bowie impressions, but I like the backing music:
