What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?

Smile: Bought new tires for my road bike and fell in love with the new model allez...I may have to start saving some money...
Frown: Putting new, kevlar road tires on is hard, takes forever, and hurts.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Heh I actually just saw the nicest bike I've seen in my life tonight at the bar. A friend just came back from California to do all the races here for the summer and built an insanely expensive fixed gear. The bike was probably close to being worth about 6000 if not a couple grand more. The funny thing is the bike I'm about to build is going to be worth more then his parts wise but done for around a grand or two. Reminds me I gotta hit the bike shop I need a chain and a tire for my drinking bike.Flake wrote:Smile: Bought new tires for my road bike and fell in love with the new model allez...I may have to start saving some money...

Flake I'm guessing you got gator skin tires right? Those things suck to get on. I wish I had some tips to make it easier. They're good tires but the sidewalls don't last more then a year or two.

The prices of high-end bikes are insane.
I wanted to do a triathlon back in 2007. Started looking at decent bikes for the race and was like HALE NO I am not buying this... ended up sticking to just regular old running instead.

Yes, indeed. I bought mine in 1994 for $2100. I got my money's worth out of it and still use it to this day. It's extremely light. The best add-on I bought was Frog Speedplay pedals. Awesome pedals.BoneSnapDeez wrote:The prices of high-end bikes are insane.
The only triathlon I ever did was the Killington Memorial Day Triathlon (did it twice). You start at the top of Superstar and ski the bumps all the way down. Your thighs will burn from all of the flexing. Then you ditch your skis and hop on the mountain bike to do a 3 mile loop up & down the mountain twice for a total of 6 miles. The last part is a 3 mile run.BoneSnapDeez wrote: I wanted to do a triathlon back in 2007. The weather is usually gorgeous and afterwards, you drink some beers with friends and compare your times.
Since I'm not a good runner, I finished near the middle. Who cares? It is just fun to do.

There is quite a big difference in quality though. I paid $1,500 for my 2009 Gary Fisher X-cal 29er. The thing that sold me on it was I had rode a Trek that was around $400 first, then rode the Fisher, and the difference in the ride was unbelievable. I also watched a video (searched youtube to share, can't find it) of a guy who was doing jumps on a high end bike, then on a low end bike to show the difference. The high end bike held together nicely. It had very little stress on the frame and on the rims. The derailleur went down, and back up in almost a fluid motion. On the lower end bike however, the frame twisted, the rim bent and stayed that way, and the derailleur almost detached itself from the bike altogether.gtmtnbiker wrote:Yes, indeed. Ticked: So, I've been playing Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 lately, a game that I have been trying to beat on and off for the past 11 years, but have always been thwarted somehow in that goal. The first time, my cartridge was "borrowed" by a friend who never returned it, after I had played the game continuously for months. The second time was on an emulator, and I lost the save file when my hard drive crashed. Today, it happened again. I finally got a new cartridge for the game several weeks ago, so I have been playing it continuously since then, getting together a perfect team of monsters to use. I must have spent about 30 hours on this playthrough alone, and well over 100 total. Then, just a few minutes ago, I accidentally bumped the cartridge (it was in a GBA SP), and the game froze. When I restarted the system, my save file was deleted. The worst part is I had saved right before the final world of the game. You know what? Fuck it. I was never meant to beat this game. Fate is dead set on me never beating it. I'm done trying to.

I totally understand. I had the same issue with Red Dead Revolver. I played it fine up until one day, the memory card corrupted the save file. No biggie, started over. It happened again. So I worked my way up to the last gunfight, the game froze right before I could have a chance to interact. I also said fuck it. On Red Dead Redemption I completed the game and collected all but 10 trophies, and then my Playstation 3 crashed, so I have no proof.lisalover1 wrote:Ticked: So, I've been playing Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 lately, a game that I have been trying to beat on and off for the past 11 years, but have always been thwarted somehow in that goal. Smile: I'm starting my internship for an IT company today; that should be fun!
Ticked: Upon closer inspection, I seem to have lost my disc for Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Not only is it my favorite Zelda game ever, but it is the game that I spent all of the summer of 2003 saving and working for to finally buy. The worst part is that I think I know where it was lost. A few months back, I brought a bunch of GC games up with me to college, and I was going back on an airplane, so my bag was obviously checked. When I looked at the case I stored my discs in after I arrived, I noticed the discs were haphazardly strewn everywhere in the case, and there was a TSA card inside, so I know they checked it. My guess is that it was carelessly inspected, and that it fell out sometime during said inspection, since I haven't seen it since.
...By the way, would anyone happen to have a spare Wind Waker disc-only copy they would be willing to sell?

So definitely some challenging times ahead, but yeah I want to feel human again so I have to see this through.
