Wild Arms: On my way to De La Metallica to get some healing herbs. This game goes on too long.

The only stalling out for FE Awakening if you have the final battle open is stalling to do all the sidequests and DLC. The actual final battle is fairly easy and very straightforward, so it's not like you procrastinate because you don't want to spend the hour to make all the right strategic moves for the last fight.

Well that's what I mean, stalling out beating the game by doing those sidequests and the rogue & redeemers dlc. That is the only DLC I bought that I haven't played. I have a bad habit of getting to the last battles of games and stalling out on sidequests.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Gurumin
Unlocked the final boss area some time ago, but I wanted to complete some side quests first.
One dungeon is optional and ends with a super duper hard "weapon" type boss. Tried to fight him once, died, and said eff it.
Went to the final boss. Quite a frustrating experience - I fought the bastard for about 20 minutes, whittled his health down to maybe the last 20%, and then died.
I'd say 90% of the damage I took was due to the poor camera angles; you simply can't see what's going on. What a trainwreck of a game, I can't believe Falcom made this.
I think I made a previous claim that this was the second-worst Falcom game after Brandish. Well I changed my mind. This is worse.

Ah, but where does Brandish fall within the rest of the SNES library?
And I haven't advanced any in 7th Saga lately. I've just been taking some time to level up a little. Kamil is now level 36, while Valsu is level 35. Gotta get tough if I want to survive the next section.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Brandish just isn't very good period. It's crippled by a bizarre control scheme - up moves you forward, down causes your character to walk backwards, and left/right rotate the screen around you. It's a shame because it could have been a competent dungeon-crawler. Brandish II is Japan-only and has the same wacky controls. I've never played any of the other ports or sequels.

Done. Faced the final boss again, exploited a weakness, and the battle was much easier this time. Only had to heal once or twice.
I think I only got the "normal ending" but I don't care.
Overall, the game was much worse than I expected. Maybe I'll write a full review in the Games Beaten thread if/when I have the time/energy.
Moving on to Shining Force II soon. I have no idea when I'll have time to play this - I anticipate some late nights and early mornings.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Back to FFV Advance after getting sidetracked by other GBA games.
Made it through the desert with that ridiculous sandworm battle, got down to the town of ruins (bonus: FF's major event music once Galuf re-joined the party
) Found the airship, and immediately realized the dialogue was updated when Cid said the overgrown lobster got "served" and then Bartz chimed in "with cheddar biscuits AND mashed potatoes!"
Now that I have the airship, I have a feeling that I must go back to playing.

The sandworm can actually be a super easy battle if you get aqua breath beforehand. It doesn't trigger his counterattack, hits all the holes, and water is his weakness.

When I originally played this, and even now, I never bothered with the Blue Magic abilities. For all I see how helpful it can be, maybe I'll reconsider next play through. However, I did find out that -
- A monk's double hit on an empty hole gets Gravity casted *twice* (as it should)
- Berserker class = bad idea when empty hole is targeted (this only happened once)
- Use of Spellblade does NOT count as a magical attack (that was a good thing)
After that update, I played a little more. Took out the cannons on the floating city, and I'll be prepared to enter it soon. I may need another level or two...
