It would have been the same amount of waiting either way. We either would have had to wait longer between the end of season 4 and the start of 5 with a shorter break in the middle of 5, or have all the wait between 4 and 5 with no break in the middle of 5.
The series finale was filmed quite some time ago. In past seasons, they were typically finishing the last few episodes as the first few of the season began airing. The waiting and splitting of the season is all AMC's marketing.
I completely forgot about this and I'm surprised I haven't seen it pop up online. Does anyone remember hearing that Brian Cranston's car was broken into and a copy of season 5's script was stolen?
can't wait to watch, will have to wait until at least an hour after it airs though as thats how long it usually takes for someone to put it up on the pirate bay.
