Well, I made it to the town of Bone. Kamil is level 23, Valsu is 22. I have three of the runes now (Wind, Water, and Star), and I've just acquired a remote control of some sort. The Water rune has made combat very interesting, since I can now use it to heal 50-60 damage with no downside except a used turn. Often times I find Kamil doing the hitting while Valsu just spams the rune. It's a bit more time consuming, but the MP conservation is very beneficial. Between the rune and Valsu's MPCatcher spell, the party has become very self-sufficient, which I suppose is vital in a game like this.

Oh, the rival apprentice who murdered the king of Patrof and took over the city? Turned out to be Olvan. The fight between Olvan and Kamil turned into a nasty grudge match where both parties had roughly the same abilities (and the same buffs). The two of them slugged it out, and it was a brutal grind. Kamil didn't win so much as outlast Olvan, who used a few too many fire and higher-ranked heal spells and ended up not having the MP to heal when he needed it. If Olvan had just a bit more MP, he'd probably be sitting pretty with all my runes right now instead of the other way around. But I must ask, is he now dead and out of the running? Or will he return and become a continuous thorn in my side? There was no exposition whatsoever after the fight, but I'd like to focus on getting rid of the rest of my rivals now, if possible. With Olvan down, and Valsu unlikely to stab me in the back, that would only leave four more to deal with.

Heh, it seems everyone else is now in the Together RPG stuff, so I guess I have 7th Saga all to myself.

Anyway, I have made it to the first town in the final continent, a snowy place named Valenca. I have 6 of the 7 runes, and my characters are level 33. I know I'm not quite at the end yet, but I've got to be getting close. And the runes have made this game much, much easier. My party is almost fully self-sufficient, though I won't ever get a mobile save point. If I did, that would be ridiculous icing on an already ridiculous cake. As it is, I can teleport between towns, restore HP and MP, double attack power, double defense, and apparently now double magic power in combat. And then both Kamil and Valsu have the basic resurrection spell, and Valsu has a spell to instantly exit a dungeon, so I'm doing pretty well. I've also got the best equipment I can buy at this point, and plenty of money once I make it to the next town for further upgrades.

I look forward to checking this one off my list!

How appropriate.

You're at an interesting part of the game. As I recall, some crazy shiz is about to go down.

I haven't started Together RPG yet because I'm still playing.......

Gurumin

Getting close to the end of the game. I think I defeated the second-to-last boss, some shape-shifting monster girl. Pretty tough fight, it took me a while to figure out she could only be damaged while she casts spells. In the process of discovering her weak point, I was forced to use two healing items. By the end of the battle I had used all of my healing items (you can only hold six). Everything in this game is expensive and it took about 2-3 hours before I had enough dough to replenish my stock.

Went through a couple more dungeons. To enter one of them I needed exactly 666 coins in my inventory. Weird.

The final dungeon (I think) beckons, but I'll continue to do some sidequests and whatnot to get more gear and money.

Played about 13 hours total so far.

Oh nice job beating Olvan.

I got lucky and had to face Lejes during all of my playthroughs. There's a (somewhat) cheap way to defeat him without taking any damage. I figured it out all on my own though, so I don't feel bad about it.

Haha, thanks. I ended up fighting Lejes at one point because I thought he had taken the rune while I was fighting the dragon. Turns out he hadn't, but the fight turned into a back and forth of me buffing and him stripping them off. I just waited until he failed to remove a buff and then applied the next one or attacked him until eventually he went down.

Unfortunately for me, Lux ended up being the one who had stolen the rune. And his laser spells HURT. I ended up beating him by getting into a back and forth where I would do about 100 damage, and he would heal for 90 points. Eventually I whittled him down and beat him, but it was not a fun fight.

That's the trick! An easy way to beat him without receiving any damage.

I've heard the other apprentices are tough. It's rumored that Valsu is impossible to beat after he gets the God spell, but encountering him with the spell is completely impractical. Since the apprentices you go up against match your level you'd need to have a lead character at level 42 to face a level 42 Valsu. That's nigh impossible for that early in the game - you'd have to level grind for.... I dunno, 15 hours? Anyway, who knows if the game's Valsu AI would be smart enough to even use the God spell.

Now I'm interested in seeing how each character fights. So far I know this:

Olvan goes for a straight damage beat down with a few fire spells mixed in. He heals when it is crucial, but his low MP runs out eventually, which keeps him from healing further.

Lejes tries to debuff and weaken the player before he actually begins proper fighting. As a result of this, Lejes can get caught in a loop of constantly trying to debuff while the player beats him.

Lux initially fights and then relies on his laser spell, but doing a damage spike of over 90 will keep him focused on healing for 90 with Heal 2, so he can be slowly worn down.

Good analysis!

Theoretically the strategy of the apprentices is slightly different if your level is higher (ie: they'll have a wider variety of spells).

I've always heard that Esuna is really tough to beat.

I'm still working on Fire Emblem: Awakening! I just haven't had time to post in here. I've been grinding a bit trying to get my party up for getting all of the children Paralogues done.

I am at the last battle in FE: Awakening. I also have all the sidequests that are marked orange on the map to do. Basically to pick up the extra dead story characters. Not sure if I will do them or not. I am afraid of stalling out finishing this one.
