Well it would be nice if they actually loaded content while cut scenes were loading ... most games don't they wait for the cut scene to end then load. Stuff like Call of Duty and Uncharted load during cut scenes, a lot of other games don't.isiolia wrote:My assumption, and it could be wrong, is that it's done to mask or minimize load time. Why unpack all those resources when it's a non-interactive sequence? Just preload the next gameplay segment while the video plays.
Works fine when the prerendered portion is similar enough to the real-time that the transition is seamless (as I recall it being on the PS3).
But, I wasn't confused why they would capture game footage for a scene as opposed to showing it in-engine. That's not even what I'm talking about here. I'm talking about lowering the render capabilities of their engine to capture the footage. Lower than what's being used in the actual game. Furthermore, studios seem to output that to a really low resolution and highly compressed video file as well. It's not as large of an issue now, but for the last 6 years it's been incredibly annoying.
It happens more on PC, but I have seen it in some console games. It's just something that's always bothered me.

Yes, Stormlord seemed amazing back then. I also desperately wanted this game based on just that screenshot. The nude fairy was a factor, I'm sure.J T wrote:I totally remember drooling over a picture that looked almost exactly like that in an old gaming magazine. Those graphics were the bomb back then. I think people even said things like "that's the bomb" back then.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Stormlord

Here are some of Deus Ex DC on Wii U. Still pretty orange.

PlanetSide 2 can be a very, very pretty game at times.

One of my favorite parts of Deus Ex HR is when you step out onto the docks and get an outside view of the ceiling in Hengsha. Absolutely wonderful.
