BurningDoom wrote:Pretty dang good episode of Green Lantern: The Animated Series this week. I hope that wasn't the season finale. The Red Lanterns arrive at the doorstep of the Guardians of the Universe. We finally see the battle between Hal Jordan and Atrocitus. The Blue Lantern makes his appearance. And *gasp* The Guardians of the Universe admit that they were wrong! Comic fans REALLY need to be watching this show, I know the CGI is a turn-off, but it's good regardless of that, seriously.

On the other hand, Young Justice this week wasn't all that great of an episode.

I have to re watch Young Justice, on first viewing I'm inclined to agree with you. It's only in the last few minutes that anything meaningful happened, and it felt like the whole episode was just about showing us how cool Wondergirl is, or how cool girls in general are as the whole episode was about an all female team going on a mission and they made sure to point that out to viewers.

I do like Wonder Girl, but her over enthusiasm and desire to prove herself can get a bit annoying. I think the most interesting part of the episode was actually Blue Beetle's story. I like him as a character, and the domestic abuse undertones of his story gave this episode a nice, grown up feel for a cartoon. I was far more interested in his story than the mission with the girls.

Batgirl was horribly utilized in this episode. As a Batfan, that disappointed me. She doesn't really do anything useful and even gets captured, and I'm sorry but any mission involving Batgirl should have her as the leader of the squad, not Megan. The show is kind of over using Megan at this point. They was an entertaining moment between Batgirl and that bumblebee character in this episode that was cool, but her lack of super powers really made her seem useless in this episode. She came off a bit bitchy with Nightwing too. I think they were just trying to show that her and Dick can tease each other because they have a good relationship, but it was just written in a way that I didn't like. Made her look very disrespectful too, since Nightwing is team leader.

Not a horrible episode of Young Justice, but did leave me a bit unsatisfied.

Green Lantern was mostly awesome this week. I agree with you for the most part. However, I didn't like the fight between Hal and Atrocitus at all and I think it ended the episode on a sour note.

Spoilers

The way Hal won the fight was just lame and not remotely believable. You've got a badass red lantern ring that is more powerful than Hal's Green Lantern ring, but then just let him beat you up with a few punches? Lame. Razor showing up and helping Hal win would have been far more believable and more satisfying. This is what I meant when I complained in a previous post about this basically being the, "Hal Jordan Show." They had to end the episode with him saving the day, even if it was done in a lame way. They could have at least shown Hal doing something clever to win. Instead, Hal gets his ass handed to him by a guy with a more powerful ring, gets pummeled nearly to death, then just gets up, throws a few punches, and wins. Talk about anti-climactic

Watched Batman Beyond and MIB: The Series for the first time in years. MIB was muuuch better than remember it being. In fact, it might even make up for the half assed second movie. Batman Beyond was okay. It seemed like the episode was trying to fit too much in at once. I was also confused on it being in the future, I don't remember that part.

The Men in Black cartoon had a pretty kick ass intro
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXHeuRMc6ak

It's been so much time since I last watched it, back when I was a kid. I really should try to find a torrent of it some day. Didnt it have a fairly dark tone and animation style for a cartoon? It wasnt as wacky/humorous as the movies IIRC. If my memory serves me right, Extreme Ghostbusters was a fairly similiar cartoon in style and it aired around the same time too

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes hasn't been on the last two weeks, not even a rerun. Did this cartoon get cancelled? And if it has been, WHY?!! It was fantastic!

Well, we got all our answers on yesterday's Young Justice. Thoughts? I thought it was a good episode, makes the wait for the next new episode pretty tough. I think they covered everything that happened in the five year gap and all of our season 1 players are back in the picture. Hopefully, that should make everyone happy. I think it only gets better from here.

What did you guys think of Futurama's season 6 finale, specifically with the different types of animation (classic B&W, 8-bit video game, and 90s Japanese anime)?

I thought it was good, and it might just be because I am slightly ignorant on the subject, I thought they nailed anime pretty well.

Why not Zoidberg?

It wasn't just 8-bit video game style, it was in the style of the mid-late 80's adventure PC games. I gave them bonus points for using PC games instead of console games like shows usually do when trying to hit nostalgia points.

So I got the first part of season one of Thundercats as a graduation present from my mom. I can't wait to watch it again since I haven't seen the original in a long time. Next to DBZ and the 90s animated Batman, it was my favorite show growing up. Also I haven't seen much of the reboot, does it do the series any justice?

I saw a few episodes. I'd say it's better, but not by a wide margin. Basically, it just looks a lot better. Cheap, 80s animation versus slick, modern, japanese anime aesthetics. Storywise, it's only slightly more sophisticated than the original

By today's standards, I wouldn't say it's a great cartoon, but it does have a lot of fan service for fans of the original. So you'll probably enjoy it. I think BurningDoom is a big fan last I heard.
