True enough.

I wonder sometimes why I never gave up gaming, even though many other people I knew did as they got older. Sure I took on other interests and hobbies as I got older, but never once did I start to see gaming as childish, boring, or a waste of time. If anything that's how I began to see average TV* in general, and why I hardly watch it anymore.

*90% of TV I watch anymore is just BBC and PBS nature documentaries, as well as anime. Other than that, an occasional HBO drama series is about it.

To keep the thread on topic... I've watched videos of it, read reviews of it, and read plenty of forum excitement about it, but the new DOOM doesn't look interesting to me at all. I am not saying it's a bad game... just that my opinion concerning the game is obviously unpopular.

Yeah, I've noted that most folks think harassment is a-okay if it's for the "right" reasons. The Internet as a whole seems to be ruled by a mob mentality. It drives me crazy.

Mad respect to the folks here, because while there are lots of differences of opinion (even in the political side from time to time), everyone is rather even-keeled. I appreciate that. There are places I would never dream of posting because of the insanity that goes on there.

I'm actually very interested in DOOM, having come off of playing the first two games. Something that plays like those games is very intriguing to me, although I suspect the amped-up graphics might be a bit much for a feeble mind like mine. :(

I may be misinformed but I thought the largest demographic of gamers currently was people in their 30's.

Right, but that's still not objectively appropriate consequences  I just mean something like, break rules of a forum, get banned, versus someone taking it upon themselves to find your personal information and harass you.

Nevermind that, most of the time, people are speaking in hyperbole anyway. It doesn't necessarily make it appropriate either, but very few probably really think that.

I actually think most people are - if you get to know them well enough - more interesting than you think. It's easy to gloss over people's interests or routines, just like they do for video gaming or whatnot. Doesn't mean that you might actually like the same things they do, but it's easy to overrate yourself and underrate others.

I wasn't all that interested in the new DOOM either. However, between the hype, and just being in the mood for something in that vein the other week, I picked it up and was pleasantly surprised. It's more like an arena FPS informed by action/brawlers like DMC/Bayonetta/etc. Not the zomg best thing EVER, but solid.

People suck. This is why I entered full Hermit Mode when I became an adult. People look down on me for not liking football or cars or hunting or whatever. I just like video games, titty anime, and ponies. It's our eccentricities that make us interested and stand out from the rabble.

When I see that figure thrown around, people always seem to cite the ESA studies. When I check the ESA studies, they say "the average gamer is mid-thirties", but the studies don't cite their sources, or bother to define what they classify a "gamer" actually as.

I might be elitist (protip: I'm elitist), but I don't think a mid-30s adult playing a sum total of 8 minutes of Crossy Road on their iPhone per week, puts them in the same classification as an adult who spends 30 hours a week on console JRPGs. But the ESA does, so whatever.

Oh, my friends say that I'm the poster child for gaming elitism. I don't count mobile games as "real" gaming regardless of the fact that mobile ports of Final Fantasy, GTA, etc. have rendered that argument irrational. If anything, I think Facebook games add negative points to your "Am I a Real Gamer?" total. I also think that anyone who believes the "PC Master Race" bullshit needs to fuck themselves with a cactus using Tabasco for lube.

We can still be friends if you fall into one or more of those categories, but I'm going to judge you hard.

I believe the issue is that the ESA's statistics are based around who is buying the games as opposed to playing them. Folks in their 30s are buying, sure, but that doesn't mean they play the games. They could be buying them for children, relatives, friends, etc.

Also, Elkin's just mad because he'll never join us glorious gods of gaming.

What gods of gaming? My PC is probably as strong as or stronger than most people here.

The most glorious pantheon of all: the pantheon of Ack. You seem ok though, so I will grant you demigod status.
