Did they every really stop making them? They sold them for use with the Wii as well.Ziggy587 wrote: How amazing is it that Nintendo is reproducing a controller from two generations ago? When has that ever happen?

Heard they are made by a third party this time around. Wonder if the quality is up to snuff.

From what I've seen so far, Hori is producing the "Battle Pad Turbo" for Wii U (officially licensed by Nintendo), decked out in beautiful Mario/Luigi colour schemes. However, it doesn't have the same feel as the original GC pad...it's lighter, the Z button is swapped with the R button (???) and it's not quite the same shape. The big downside is that it plugs into the Wii Remote. Then there are the pads being produced by PDP for Wii U (also officially licensed by Nintendo)...which are also lighter than the original GC pad. I guess this is due to lack of rumble. I find the colour schemes of the PDP controllers to be quite a lot uglier than the Hori pads, but that boils down to personal preference. The button layout on the face is the same, but the c-stick is a regular sized analogue stick on this pad. Also, you have L/R/ZL/ZR on the back, which may throw your fingers off depending on how committed to the GC pad you are. The big downside again is that this plugs into the Wii Remote.
Nintendo themselves are producing the original wired GC pad as a "Super Smash Bros." edition with a little graphic on the face. While it's a pro that it's the original pad, it costs double the alternatives ($50 vs $25 sales notwithstanding) and you need to buy the GC controller adapter for Wii U to utilize them. The white GC pad that Nintendo has been producing for the Japanese market is still widely available, and should come in around $35.
All in all, it comes down to -- do you still own any GC pads, and does buying the adapter make sense for you, or are you flush with Wii Remotes and just want a similar but not quite the same experience to save cash or are you mr. moneybags and want to shell out for a whole new set of GC controllers?
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
The only weird thing is they supposedly only work here with Smash, right?
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Yes, but I have hope. I wont hold my breath on Nintendo officially supporting the GCN controller adapter in other U games, especially past ones, but there's always the chance.Xeogred wrote:The only weird thing is they supposedly only work here with Smash, right?
Devolution and Nintendont, two GCN HDD loaders, work in the virtual Wii on the U. There's always the chance that the devs will add support for the GCN adapter.

I agree, feel sorry for you that they're so obtuse, just complete morons when it comes to handling paying accounts for games and systems. It's so random if they'll throw you under the bus or not despite any possible evidence on hand including their own records.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:So I've finally replaced my Wii U!
Now, I could have swore I delinked my NNID from the old one somehow before I sold it but I guess that's not the case. I now have to give Nintendo Support a call tomorrow and do some lengthy praying to deities unknown that they'll transfer the old ID over. I have the serial number and register dates for various games and blah blah blah. Last time that STILL wasn't enough to get them to do it. I wonder if it's even worth it. No account transfer should be as convoluted as this.
I'm debating just giving up on the system still but I know for certain if I do I'm going to double check I de-link my ID from the thing because if I ever did do this and get one down the line or games are transferable to yet another system I'd like to retain things.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Giving up when Smash comes out. Great timing.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
It's down to how Nintendo has implemented the controller libraries...about as backwards as only Nintendo can. Other games will have to provide updates to support it.Xeogred wrote:The only weird thing is they supposedly only work here with Smash, right?
At least they HAVE an account system now. The original Wii has your actual Wii hardlinked to the store, so format your Wii and oops, can't download anything from the store any more, you're a new Wii. Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
No doubt that was far more stupid, but it's like they just don't want to do the right thing and found the one way they can still be control freaks and try and look like they care at the same time while really not. That's what bothers me is that with a non-literal flip of the switch they could make another NN/firmware upgrade to allow an account to re-download off the server and they just won't do it as they'd rather you call in and beg.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
So I was talking to a customer at my job today who was interested in getting a Wii for his 5 year old as something they could play together with and introduce him to video games. He had some questions about the differences between the Wii, Wii Mini and WiiU.
As I talked to him more and more, I found that there is something really magical about playing the WiiU with people you care about. I was explaining to him how you don't have to rely on the GAmepad for his son to use and that he could use it in games like New Super Mario Bros. U and Rayman Legends to act as a helper character and make the game easier and more enjoyable for him.
They had interest in Skylanders and I sold him on Disney Infinity 2.0 as the modern action figure brought to life with unlimited play and possibilities.
I just see it as something you can do to sit down with someone and just play and have fun. That's pretty special.
