Cool, where would it rank amongst other turn based RPGs you've played?Jagosaurus wrote:It's great. Im about 2/3 way through. I took a break to finish Golden Sun DD. I'm not big into juggling 2 RPGs. Phantasy Star IV is one of the best JRPGs ever made. Top five easily.Violent By Design wrote:Cool, where would it rank amongst other turn based RPGs you've played?Jagosaurus wrote:It's great. I feel your platforming pain. I've got to the point last night were I could practically speed run through the Amazon in Ducktales, all the way to the Inca Statue....and then I couldn't time my jumps right.jinx wrote:Holy crap...
I really friggin' suck at Super Mario Bros. This game was played fairly often when I was a kid, as the NES was the only system I had for a while. I tried playing SMB3 a few months ago and sucked then too. I'm not sure if I should blame the controller, the HDTV, or that I'm just really rusty. I can't ever seem to land my jumps right, and those springs... those horrible springs...
So far, I've only managed to make it as far as World 5-3. I'll give it some more time tomorrow, but the little I played today just made me frustrated... How can somebody be bad at Super Mario Bros.?
And then, of course, I can't take the shortcut a second time because the little box doesn't re-spawn and have to go the long way or time my jump *just* right and those little buggy natives would hit me with a spear and....Yeah. This is why I have trouble beating platformers

Re: Summer Game Challenge 2013 - Begin when ready!
Played the first hour of Prime 3 for the third time. Still find the game feels a bit... generic. There's something very Unity 3D project about it all. Everything looks pretty but seems simultaneously a bit too clean but unnoteworthy, competent but a bit too stifly animated - it seems lacking in character. Which is odd for the third game of a trilogy where the first two didnt have that issue at all. Maybe it's all these federation troops walking about. Not a fan of those either, but I can understand wanting to develop the metroid universe a bit with more people. Feels like a pretty safe western take on sci-fi though and I don;t like it.
Oh, and these Wii controls everyone loves? They arent that hot so far. I dont like having to hold - and select which visor to use by pointing, it's awkward. I dont like having to press 1 to bring up my map. What does + do? Nothing at the minute. I dont see the point of having a lock on feature, but still requiring you to aim at the thing you're shooting - lock or or free aim, do one or the other. I don't like jump being B and shoot being A, but at least you can swap those two around.
It's early days yet, and i'm sure the controls in particular will become more familiar, but something has always felt off about Prime 3 in it's early stages to me, and it alway put me off continuing further. It feels like it was trying to copy some then modern action gaming trends a bit unnecessarily perhaps.
Gonna play an hour of Loco Roco before bed now.

I can't argue. It's so highly regarded for a reason. I find myself humming the tunes often. Hell, even the inventory "bubble popping" SFX is nice. They really thought of all the details.Phantasy Star IV is one of the best JRPGs ever made. Top five easily.
Also, the cyberpunk themes are very cool. You'll have robots & lasers mixed with sages & spells. Very interesting. Get ready for some huge boss battles!
Only JRPG I can think of I liked better (so far, probably 12ish hours left in PSIV) was Dragon Quest V (which I was addicted to).
Tip: while I'm not big on actual walkthroughs, DL a stand alone over world map. It'll make your life easier.

Phantasy Star 2 had pretty jamming music considering its era. Not surprised that PS4 has nice sound.

Hey Michi, I just wanted to let you know that while I do love the Duck Tales game, it is the first video game in which I ever swore while playing. I killed the Inca Statue boss and immediately shouted "Fucking bad guy!" My father was not at all amused to hear his five-year-old say that.Michi wrote:I feel your platforming pain. So it's not just me? Oh, thank goodness.Ack wrote:Hey Michi, I just wanted to let you know that while I do love the Duck Tales game, it is the first video game in which I ever swore while playing. I had to stop last night because my hands were getting sore from gripping the controller too hard every time I died

I'm so glad I'm not alone!Michi wrote:I feel your platforming pain.
Platforming seems to be hit or miss with me. I do amazing one second, then I miss that spring and fall to my death 6 times in a row causing a Game Over. Sometimes I have to stop for a while and calm down before I can continue playing...
At first I thought it might be a side-effect of getting old or having a kid. I'm sure not playing any Mario games for nearly 10 years has something to do with it...
