I can tolerate something like Hammer Smashed Face but it sounds emotionless and monotone so it gets boring real quick imo. Cant stand that goregrind shit though.

I really like Varg's vocals, it really sounds like he's being tormented so Burzum's songs have such an unique athmosphere. The vocals sound genuine and like they're full of emotion. Det som en gang var sounds so much more dark and oppressive than any kind of blastbeat BM like Mayhem.

I pretty much had the same feelings toward Blessed... it was really a grower for me.

Ah, yeah I more or less agree. There's a lot of low growlers that I really like though. Frank Mullen (Suffocation) comes to mind.

Chris Barnes isn't a good vocalist - never been a huge fan.

Lots of growlers are great though, check out Mikael Åkerfeldt in Katatonia:

I really dig bands that alternate highs and lows (some NSFW music and artwork ahead):

His vocals work okay on CC's first 3 albums. He sounds really shitty on The Bleeding and on all the Six Feed Under stuff he just plain sounds goofy.

Have you ever heard those AC/DC covers he did? Absolutely hilarious.

Never heard 'em. I only sorta-like a small handful of early CC albums and I avoid Six Feet Under all together.

Oh man it's so terrible/great. You gotta hear at least a little bit of it:

I seriously crack up every single time when the vocals come in. His voice is so totally shot by this point (probably all that weed) so he sounds more like a hoarse old man than someone trying to actually do a menacing growl. Not to mention how absurdly inappropriate it is to mix AC/DC with growls anyway.

holy shit that's awful..... he's not even growling at this point - more like trying to sing with a "growly" voice.

It's kinda fascinating with harsh vocalists who've been around a long time like that. I mean some of them have voices that have just completely gone down the toilet over the years (like ol' Barnes here), while other guys like John Tardy pretty much still sound exactly like they did in the 80s.
