Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I agree with harper.
Having access to every game you may ever want to play is just spoiling yourself. next you'll want every movie you may ever want to watch, or every cd you may ever want to listen to.
Not to say that collecting is bad in general, it was just bad for me. I'm trying to leave the "collecting" zone and enter more into the "gaming" zone.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I kind of have a system going. Every week, I try to play something on a different system, so as to try to include everything. Alas, it really doesn't work, but I delude myself into thinking it does.

I used to do it like that too, had a s-video splitter running all kinda of systems to two different tvs (one in TATE of course), along with a few systems running component.
I don't do that fancy lcd/plasmer fanangle. They always forget to put scanlines on those newfashion tvs.

You know, I've tried but failed to see the appeal of scanlines. I kind of prefer the smoother lcd screen view... what is the attraction or benefit going for scanlines?dunpeal2064 wrote:hell yar!foxhound1022 wrote:Already hooked up, son. I got 10 retro systems ready to go at all times.

I'm old-school, only play on CRT's. Mostly because I spend too much on game shit to afford a decent one. I'd only get HD for 360 anyway, but the expense isn't worth it.

I think it makes pixels look much sharper... but now that you asked, I'm not exactly sure why.Jmustang1968 wrote:

Its like the developers designed the pixels around screens with scanlines, so they look fantastic.
Maybe I can talk Mjmjr25 into taking some comparison pics via a supergun, since a low res 15khz game would show the difference the best.
Of course, any realistic-looking games, or anything running 1080p for that matter, will look much nicer on an lcd.
Take Deathsmiles. Its arcade mode is designed for crts, but sincethe 360 is outputting at 480p, I think 360 mode still looks much nicer. However, if you were to use a downscaler, the arcade mode mode would then run in 15khz, and if your crt can sync to that, pr if you're running it in a cab, it will look more authentic (true to the arcade)
However, authentic doesn't necessarily mean better. Most purists will want to be close to the arcade as possible, but there is no arguing that the 1080p mode looks fantastic. I still prefer the HD modes on a crt though.
Some games, like Raiden Fighters Aces, have scanline options, to make your hd lcd image more authentic. It looks quite nice.
In short: ts all preference and another way to waste money
