RPG Progress Report
Re: RPG Progress Report
Get a high level and stack Chameleon through the enchantment stones from closing rifts. Laugh as the game has no idea how to handle you.

Also keep in mind that many of the resources found in Oblivion gates are pretty much only found in Oblivion gates, so gather up as much as you can.
Also buy a house soon so you have somewhere to dump stuff.

Re: RPG Progress Report
it's interesting how quickly this game grabbed me. Actually, about as quickly as Skyrim did.
I know I'm kind of working my way backwards through the ES games - having played Skyrim, Online (a little bit), and now Oblivion (and Legends!!) - I'm starting to feel like this is one of my favorite RPG series... maybe my favorite.

I suppose I'm probably in the minority of Westerners who like Tales the best though.

@Partridge: I have nothing against JRPG's. In fact, I've played way more of them in my life. But as such, WRPG's are still "new" to me. I'm catching up. I can't say I like one more than the other. Depends on mood really.
@Stark's Beard: I still think Skyrim is better. But Oblivion is awesome.

Re: RPG Progress Report
I will say one thing about Oblivion, I love Cyrodiil. It's such an idyllic fantasy setting that's just cheerful to explore. Skyrim is beautiful and all but it's gritty and oppressive. Both flavors are welcome but running around the countryside in Cyrodiil is a pleasant experience. I know a lot of people disliked it after the very alien landscapes of Morrowind but I think it's really pretty.

Re: RPG Progress Report
I've been very busy these last few weeks, so I've been chipping away at Emerald Dragon an hour per day. It's a unique old JRPG. Very "easy" and linear, with an undeniably broken combat system. There's a lot of character development and "skits" like those found in the Tales games. Only two playable characters can gain experience, and there's magic but no MP. Hope to have it finished somewhat soon.

PC Engine version? I imported the Super Famicom version not terribly long ago, and have no idea what the differences are between versions.
