I came to that realization late last year. Sold basically everything.

How did you decide what to part with? Every time I look at my collection and think of trimming, I get that "but I really DO want to play this someday" feeling...

That was certainly the hard part. I basically went all out and just got rid of everything. I get the urge to play a game or two I got rid of occasionally but it's happening less frequently.

Trust me, the feeling in my gut while I did it was extremely conflicted and unpleasant. Overall I'm much more happy now though.

Curious: how many games did you have before you sold and how many do you have now?

I looked to my shelf and wrote down the names of everything that I really didn't want. My collection isn't very big, around 100 titles, so I know all of them from memory. Even then, if I don't recall the name of a game I own, it probably has to go away.

Anyways, I'm cleaning my games because my perception of collecting really changed and because at the end of the day I bought a lot of games because I was told they were cool, not because I really liked them. Stuff like Disgaea comes to mind.

I'm looking foward a more compact collection where each game matters. On the very least I plan to trade some of the stuff in exchange for games I really care about.

Heh, I am apparently not the only one realizing that tons of games are unnecessary. From my last two sales thread, I'd say I've sold over 90% of my collection.

I realized I had a lot of games because it was nice to have them available. I was just spoiling myself, and I had so many games that I rarely played ANY of them.

Since getting the Cab, I've realized that I loved games when I was young because I only had one or 2. I would play the SHIT out of whatever game I had, for months on end, even if I had already cleared the game, just because it was fun.

Letting go of some games like Garegga and Ibara was hard. However, when I have given some time to what I already have in the cab, I can always pick one of those up. Then, it will be one of few games I have, it will be in the cab for months, and it will be even more fun than I ever had with it on the Sat/ps2.

Its like they say with ladies. If you love em, let em go.... Wait, that makes no sense

I had between 2 and 3 hundred games. I am still working on selling stuff, but my plan is to only keep:

j360 w about 10 games
ps2 (its my dvd player, and I play teh FF's now and then)
Wii (Emulation for TR and SotM stuff, plus my gf loves the Wii)
Cab w/ no more than 5 pcbs at a time.

So, less than 30 titles total now. Probably 10 of those are Cave shmups.

I had a problem with this. Here's hwo I look at it:

1) I am selling the game for near what it is worth. Its not like trading it in to Gamestop, although I do like to give deals.
2) Therefore, whether I have the game, or money from the game, its basically the same if I am not playing it often.
3)So, I tell myself "If I really do want to play that game, I should just buy it when I am ready to play it. If I stop playing it, instead of tucking it away, I'll sell it again (Unless I plan on playing it weekly or something, but even then, at a point the plays would slow)"

I dunno... I used to think having a variety was key, but then I would not truely experience any game. I think playing the first few levels of a game twice and then changing it up for another game you just got, doesn't really give you the cnahce to truely enjoy the game. Its like I am limiting myself because I know how I am with tons of games.

Some of you know me well enough to know that credit feeding is not my thing. If I want to see stage 5 of Ketsui, I need to get there. I've had the game for a year, and I have never been there. I really want to experience these games the way they were developed to be experienced, and that takes some amount of dedication, which I cannot maintain with so many awesome games.

I think I have around 90 games right now. I expect to get rid of thirty, not counting the terrible crap which I will simply dump or sell for 0,5€ to a pawn shop (so, half my collection is innacurrate, it's around a third).

I expect to get up to 90 again after selling all I don't want and getting all I want and feasibly can get (I have priorities).

In total just under 100. It wasn't a lot, but, it was more about what I owned than the amount. I didn't want a TV specifically for gaming. I didn't want 5 consoles sitting under the TV all with differently libraries and controllers and such. I wanted a nice consolidated experience.
