I don't know how anyone could beat Maneater (What a dick!) by themselves let alone the whole game.
Key to Flamelurker is to not lock on. Or just use homing magic. That shit rapes him.
As for Maneater, you can do the snipe through the fog method or if a magic user, firespray and firestorm work really well.
I tried sniping Maneater through the fog wall but after taking down like 1/4th of his health he stopped taking damage from my arrows. I know I wasn't missing either because I was using the lava bow and could see him light on fire every time I shot one.

I've done a no death run in Demon's Souls alone.
I did a no death run as well. It's the alone part that eludes me. All of world 3 pretty much scares me shitless.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

I found that going for a powerful melee approach is the best option in the game. Better than just sniping everything with magic, and certainly funner and more fulfilling. I just used the Keel Smasher +5 with Cursed Weapon handy for my solo no death run and plowed through everything. Early bosses died in just a few hits. Tower Knight died in 2, on NG+++.
Memorization of level layouts and enemy behavior is a big factor too, obviously.
