I know it's done everywhere, but it's still a shitty practice that I can't understand the reasoning behind.

What does it matter if product is destroyed versus an employee taking it home or it going to charity?
It is the property of Gamestop. They paid for it. They used it. They own it. They have no moral obligation to do what anyone else wants them to do with it. They are a business. They like to make money. This is no surprise. Holy hell, why is this retarded thread 52 fucking God Damn pages long?

Hey, I have an idea: Fuck grocery stores, right? There are hungry people out there and they have the gall to SELL food!?

Those stupid colleges! I need an education and it was free for the first 12 years. Why should I have to pay NOW!?

ALL RESTAURANTS how DARE you throw food away at the end of the night instead of assuming the legal liability of giving whatever is left over away at the end of the night at your own cost.

I can't play my games without electricity. It is unfair of the power company to charge me for my power!

Companies like to make money. If they do something that you do not like, it is because they cannot make any money doing otherwise. /Concept.

The mall near me used to have two of them in the same mall for years after the EB Games buyout, but they finally closed one of them.

The main reason stores don't donate to charity is if they did some consumers would wait utill they donate them to charity, then buying from the thrift store at a cheaper price.

The reason they don't give items away to employees is that if employees knew items that didn't sell they could get for free, they might hide said product or turn away others from buying, so they can get it for free.

I'm not making anyone look stupid. I'm just astonished that so many smart people are stuck in an endless loop about Gamestop and their evil plan to make money.

Look, I avoid shopping at gamestop. I find the selection to be poor, I find their prices on used items are too high, and I don't like the atmosphere.

I disagree with the general practice of destroying discontinued items. What does that have anything to do with 'evil' grocery stores charging for food?

Gamestop is a store like any other. They do the things they do because they find that to be the best way to make money that they understand. People complaining that Gamestop should go out of its way to give out game cases freely is no different than expecting any other business to give out whatever they aren't using with no compensation. No incentive = not going to happen.

The difference between gamestop going 'out of their way' to not destroy cases (couldn't they sell them en masse via ebay or something?) and your other examples is that gamestop is getting rid of something they aren't even trying to sell to begin with. The examples would be more appropriate if we were all clamoring for gamestop to give us free games or something.

My comment wasn't even about specifically throwing cases away to begin with, it was more the destruction of kisoks, etc. that all stores do. I'm saying I don't think it's a sensible practice because there's obviously a market for that sort of thing, and it could be sold off instead.

I used to work at Gamestop and guess what? The employee's get grabs at all that shit, and take it most of the time, at least at the stores near me.

Also, when I worked there, if there was a standee that none of us wanted, we would write a customers name on it and give it to them when it was done being used.

I really think it depends on the manager. That pretty much applies for any customer service job anywhere period.

I suppose people do love to bitch and complain though

Gamestop PS2 Competetion
I went by the Sony store, not too much left in PS2 games, but if there is one in your area check it out. New PS2 games are all going for $5.99 locally at Sony here.
Ack wrote:Ok, I checked in with one of the stores in my area. While the thing becomes official on April 3, it turns out two of my three local stores already don't carry GBA titles anyway, so I have only one to check.

Also, I asked about the PS2 collection. The clerk said the rumor he'd heard was that PS2 would be phased out in the Fall, before the end of the year. So we're looking at both the GBA and the PS2 leaving Gamestop in one year.

The end of an era...
If anyone else hears when Gamestop will no longer buy back used PS2 and Gamecube, please post on this thread.
