All this is probably another reason I'm not huge on Metroid 2 either. It's like someone has the TV mode on ZOOM x2. lol

This is why you repro. Having megaman and bass on a real snes is just so good.

I buy newly released games, but I usually don't play them until they are far from being brand new. I just don't get excited about playing brand new releases as soon as they are available.

Oh, absolutely. In fact, the Mega Man games are always the first that come to mind when it comes to spacing and screen real estate. It's also probably one of the reasons that, overall, I actually think the NES-era platformers are better than the SNES. (Of course, the SNES has some amazing games, but there's just so many solid ones on NES that it's hard for me to go against it.)

So you're losing how much a year?

May as well wait 6-12 months to get the ultimate editions with all the DLC + omega costumes and extras for potentially less than half the price!

I put up with it for Megaman V on the GB, since that game was awesome. Otherwise yeah...

I don't have any issues with the X games, but the size changes are very noticeable when you hit the PSX games. Still didn't bug me like Megaman 7 does, but yeah. What does bug me about the PSX games though is the pointless ability to duck. WHY, giving the characters two lines of fire changes the whole dynamic when you really break it down, and was pretty unnecessary. Oh well... still love them, but that's the biggest change that bugs me haha.

But yeah it really could be my initial love for Mario, Megaman, Blaster Master, etc that programmed my preference for smaller sprite characters.

MM7 is definitely the worst offender in the series. The X games are alright for me, including the PSX ones. They're bigger, sure, but they're not massive.

And yes, MMV on Game Boy is great. If you haven't played it, MMIV is also excellent. I'm torn between which one on GB is better.

I've just got the first 2 on GB, never owned more than I think up through 4. I liked the fact they combined robots from the NES so 1 and 2 were more special since it has the MM2 roster, though I do much like the setup from 3 as well which rolls into the next since GB staggers them.

MM7 I had for a couple years, never quite got into it. I didn't mind the bigger style, looked nice, but I didn't much care for the item shopping and some other junk I'm now fuzzy on but yeah it's gone. While I was passive on that, I detested MMX2 and 3 which I had so selling those were a nice pay day. I still feel Mega Man should have never tried to half ass ape the style of SOTN with the returning into areas to pick up crap once you have the right gear and starting out as a paper wimp. On top of that the bosses just felt overly cheap and hard while the stages were more or less cake. Maybe that garbage got better with time but I quit when it jumped from Nintendo so I've just hit the 5 between GBC and SNES. I have kept MMX1 though, have a soft spot for it and I really have no idea why other than it was a retail grab in the day.

I don't know about the others, but MMV is its own thing with a space theme, and Wily's stage is one massive level. It was pretty different and awesome.

It's not about me saving money. It's about supporting developers and their publishers while my money still reaches them.

I think it depends a bit on the genre. Like 2D fighting game fans usually favor bigger sprites(with higher counts in animation frames, at least comparable between arcade and home releases) to be sure they can see the action. Since you'll likely only have two characters on screen anyway, having them take up more real estate is acceptable. But in other genres, this can present problems. I've never really thought about it for beat 'em ups beyond wanting decent animation quality.

This is very true. There are games that I want to continue to see made. Even though it's not quite "niche", I jump on Dragon Quest games immediately... but they also get played immediately, so there's a little bit of both going on here. ;)
