I still have a lot of morbid curiosity over Sonic Boom haha. I want to get Lost World at least since I enjoyed the demo, and I think these Sonic games get dirt cheap after awhile... can't hurt. I hope?

I own Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and Dark Souls II on PS3. So that's a good start. I might say the hell with it and play Demon's Souls this year, despite wanting to finish Shadow Tower and Shadow Tower Abyss first. What I want to know right now, is between Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, which one is harder?

Well I'll just say what most people tend to say about the games, the first one you play will the hardest. It makes a lot of sense. Takes time to soak in the mechanics, but once you have them down you have the foundation set for the series. Perhaps your extensive King's Field knowledge will already give you a boost on some understanding of things.

That said Dark Souls 1 is still probably the most daunting because of how massive it is and it has the least NPC's of all the games. It's also probably the most unforgiving when it comes to character builds. If you misuse a few points, that could screw you over entirely. I guess my history is strange since Demon's was my first and I loved it, then I played Dark but got stuck and didn't beat it my first go around. I actually beat Dark Souls 2 first and it was a cake walk, so when I went back to Dark Souls 1 and had a far superior STR build instead of DEX, the game just got easier and easier the further I got. The DLC was still brutal though, the final boss in it is kind of infamously cheap. In Dark Souls though you can cheese the game with fat armor, but that's boring as hell. Armor is completely worthless in Demon's, literally haha. Just get the Black Thief set in Demon's and you're set, the most important thing there is having fast roll.

Some people think Dark Souls 2 is challenging but I can't really compute that, outside of the DLC which is completely insane and tougher than the other games even on NG+'s runs to me. But I had a Faith/Lightning/STR build which according to discussions over later patches, were heavily nerfed over time so maybe that gimped me. Still got the platinum though!

Bloodborne was pretty easy to me and the easiest one to platinum. You can't block in this one but they made combat a lot more dynamic and faster paced, so it balances it out. Was it easier for me since it was the 4th game? I don't know. I think it would destroy completely new players to the series.

The DLC in all these games is definitely worth while, so I recommend them. I pretty much never buy DLC, but these games are the exception and usually deliver an extra handful of several hours worth of content.

I will read your monster Souls posts. :wink: :lol:

I'm planning on skipping 2 and going to 3 given the black sheep status 2 seems to have because I don't want to completely burn myself out. It's not like From Software is known for it's sensible storytelling so I'm not afraid of missing anything.

I've still got dozens of hours to put into the first Dark Souls though so I'll grab it on sale in the future.

Always best to check a game out yourself to confirm! I still love Dark Souls 2 and it did some good things. The amount of content in this one is staggering, build/magic wise especially. At the very least, I would argue it has some of the best DLC in the franchise. The first DLC was very King's Quest according to bruno, it was an awesome temple with traps and puzzles, etc, damn it was so cool. The Iron King DLC is straight up one of my favorite levels in the whole franchise. I don't know if "A team" worked on the games DLC, but they are a major highlight.

To me it would be like saying Megaman 4-6 are crap or something. When they aren't at all, still great stuff, but I can see how DS2 isn't as refined as the others and isn't the most popular... still not bad in any regards though. But it is a different flavor and not as intricately Metroidvania like Dark 1, Bloodborne, and more than likely Dark 3 are.

Can't wait! :mrgreen:

Well, I know a lot of folks that say Mega Man 4 is crap. And another set that says Mega Man 5 is crap. Welcome to the Internet! ;)

I really like Mega Man 4. 5 I think might be the weakest of the ones I've played - the level designs are truly awful for the most part.

It's time for another game series rating list (woo, everyone loves those)

9 > 10 > 2 > 1 > 4 > 6 > 5 > 3 (I'll never forgive them for the Doc Robots :twisted: )

I like MM5, if only for the insanely powerful Buster. It does feel a little more bland at times, though.

Ooh, ooh, can I get in on that rating action, too? Actually, I'm going to do it anyway! I'm pretty sure I've posted this before, and it'd be interesting to see if mine lines up with what I posted last time.

MM2 = MM9 > MM3 > MM5 = MM6 > MM4 = MM10 > MM1 > MM8 > MM7

EDIT: Ha, almost! Here's what I posted last time. And the more I think about it, that might be closer to correct. It's hard to say. Things get awfully fluid for me at the low end of the Mega Man games. Except for MM7 being at the bottom. Always at the bottom.

MM2 = MM9 > MM5 = MM3 > MM6 > MM4 > MM8 > MM10 > MM&Bass > MM1 > MM7

VERY UNPOPULAR OPINION:

The Japanese gaming industry produced so many Dragon Quest clones for the Famicom in the late 1980s and early 1990s that (1) Nintendo's decision not to localize them was justified and (2) the majority of the Japanese developers creating games for the Famicom during this period were creatively bankrupt.

Well I like MM3 better than MM2, so there! :P

DISCLAIMER: While I understand MM2 revolutionized the series and introduced many things that would be featured in future installments, I just enjoyed 3 a whole lot more. Plus, the slide. You can't deny that.

Actually, that's more truth than opinion. There were a ton of clones, and most of the devs in Japan were creatively bankrupt. They had even more shovelware problems than we did.

I agree with what you're saying, it's just a matter of time commitment and not wanting to get burned out like I said. These are huge games (comparatively I can knock out probably half of the classic Mega Man games in an afternoon). I'll probably get to Dark Souls 2 someday but 3 is likely next on my list and I don't have a PS4 to play Bloodborne so that's not even in the running.

Mega Man 5 is the, "I don't feel like a challenge today," Mega Man game, between the insanely OP buster and the extremely high item drop rate. It does have a few inspired levels like Gravity Man but then there's really dire, boring levels like Charge Man. I like it but I like them all so I'm biased. It's probably my least favorite of the 6 NES games though. I think I've said this before but it edges out 6 as the prettiest looking one.

I am getting into Famicom collecting, and I really had no idea how many there were. I am looking up a lot of games, and every other one is a Dragon Quest clone!

Here's one reason I enjoyed 5.
