Re: Official Racketboy Suggestion Forum Thread
Not to go too far off topic, sure MVS is arcade hardware, but there have been adapters and consolized systems for quite some time. It's PCB's in case...just like an Atari cart...
Point was there is probably more discussion on racketboy of Neo Geo MVS than anything Atari related. But, I digress...

Weird there is all this Atari talk and I have been drooling over these for a while.
Any way when I research Atari stuff I usually go over to Atari-Age. I really don't see a lot of other people talking about Atari around here much. I do consider them to be the Grandfather of console gaming, so maybe the deserve the respect to have a sub form.
Your call guys.

While I think Dave makes the best points of any side in this argument, this statement is the one that has made me decide to back the subforum 100%.bryan_65 wrote:Any way when I research Atari stuff I usually go over to Atari-Age. I realize that Atari-Age is a better resource, I don't like the idea that our members immediately go elsewhere to have Atari discussions and research. I would like some of these people to stay "in house" and our members can discuss, teach, and build a respectable Atari subforum. I know I would be more comfortable reading and discussing Atari here and do not want to join another forum just for that one purpose. Lets look at keeping everything in house as much as possible.

I think now would be another good time to advocate that everybody go read Racing The Beam. I swear to goodness, you read that book and you'll all be amped to talk Atari for weeks!

Re: Official Racketboy Suggestion Forum Thread
Whilst I personally don't feel either SNK or Atari need their own board, I do feel if we do one, we should just go all out and do both. That's every major console manufacturer sorted then, and the other board can cover all the other, more obscure systems including the Intellivision, Colecovision, 3DO, CDi, etc. I don't think anyone could successfully argue for an individual board for any of the other companies listed in 'other'. However, if a company talked about as little as Atari gets it's own board, I can see people arguing for a seperation of Sony and Microsoft.
The numbers on Ds' search were so similar between Atari and SNK that I don't see how one is more deserving than the other, although I will say that not searching terms like NGCD or NGPC is going to cut down heavily on the neo geo discussions.
I do feel like Atari just won't warrant as much discussion though. So few gamers seem that into Atari things - even amongst retro gamers like ourselves they often seem more of a novelty.

I agree with all of this post, particularly the first sentence.alienjesus wrote:Whilst I personally don't feel either SNK or Atari need their own board, I do feel if we do one, we should just go all out and do both. I would love to see some more information on the Sega CD and Sega 32x - Most Valuable and Cheapest Games for sure. Is there just not enough interest in these topics or are they a work in progress?

Make that Magnavox and a certain brown box. Ralph Baer would like to talk to you.bryan_65 wrote:Any way when I research Atari stuff I usually go over to Atari-Age. This and maybe it should happen?alienjesus wrote:However, if a company talked about as little as Atari gets it's own board, I can see people arguing for a seperation of Sony and Microsoft.

Any way I just have a fondest for Atari stuff even if Magnavox did it first.

Re: Official Racketboy Suggestion Forum Thread
For those on the fence, I think making console based forums instead of Generation based (i.e. first gen arcade, first gen console, second gen...) would be easier even if the discussion was sometimes slow. I think every major console company should be represented - Atari and SNK.
