If I didn't have a good, stable job holding me in KC I would leave for Manhattan, KS, Flagstaff, AZ or Round Rock, TX.

My $.02

Where in KC are you?

Anyways quit my job but on good terms. If all else fails I could probably come back, at least he says. It's a good thing I never had a problem with my main boss there.

In the mean time, I'm ganna take it easy, update my resume, work on my car some (needs a new water pump. Needs new half shafts and cv boots too, but I may need to bite the bullet and let a shop handle that one). I'm ganna hit up Lawrence once or twice this weekend and start exploring, get some ideas going. Mostly I'm going to relax and live cheap for a while. I'm also ganna sell some PC hardware I have laying around, and maybe some other stuff.

That's a great website. It's interesting to see stats about your hometown and other places you've lived. Everyone should give it a try...

Scary time to quit your job, but good luck to you. I've been jobless for months now, so you might want to stay away from Carson City. It's usually a pretty nice place to live though. Got the ski resorts close by (if there was snow :? ) and hundreds of miles of open land for shooting/offroading/burying bodies/etc. College optional. Not much in the way of nerd culture though; probably better off in Reno.

If you want to stay in the midwest, Lawrence isn't a bad place. I know you don't like going out, but alot of great live music comes through there, and the Replay Lounge is a pinball bar. Awesome little dive. Jobs are always a bit tough to come by in college towns, but if you are willing to work for 8 bucks a hour you can find something...at least untill you find something better.

As Scooter suggested Lincoln, NE is pretty nice. But there is alot of small town jocks there, so avoid the bars downtown (like I need to tell you that). Alot of my friends have got into fights there, and they aren't violent people.

I like Omaha a bit better. Very beautiful city, and it just has a nice vibe. I had a hard time getting a job there, but I wasn't willing to take less than 12 bucks an hour.

I live in Phoenix now and it's all right. I've met alot of really great people but I don't really like the city and the weather. I'm happy though, met my wife here and I'm in a band, and recording music. Key thing is that I can actualy afford do all that. most jobs pay decent, and apartments are pretty affordable. I used to pay 425 for a studio in the arts district downtown. They just got the light rail up and running so i can go from downtown phoenix to tempe (ASU) in around an hour. You can bring your bike too. I still found a car necessary during the summers. It's just too hot. But october through march is the best weather you could ask for. not to hot not to cold and beautiful sunsets. overall I give it 7 out of 10.

I hear Austin is actually nice too...my Dad just moved there and he likes it. The wife and I are actually looking to move somewhere eventually and it's one of the options. As is Portland. We're not sure yet though.

Hey man, I was only making $9 at my last job, and it was very relaxed, provided you could follow and build by schematics in a timely fashion. I listened to about 6 hours of music and podcasts a day. I probably wont find another job like that. I could live with $8, especially since rooms for rent seem cheaper in lawrence. Hopefully this time I'll find one with roommates that actually fucking speak to me.

I've lived here 4 months now, and my 2 roommates right across the hallway have yet to say shit to me, besides 2 or 3 Hi's, and one accusational question regarding why their door was open. They're fucking weird. I find empty cans of tuna in the bathroom trash every night, and I hear sounds that I probably don't want to know about. Example, most nights I can hear one of them going to the bathroom and what sounds like squeezing out a wet sponge. And 3 times now, the woman forgot to flush the toilet, leaving me wonderful presents, including a complete platter of trimmed pubic hairs.
