I got nothing, except to confirm that you do need to boot with the disc in the drive. Its a requirement. The disc must be inside before the initial exploit is run, which is before ESR is activated. I guess I cant help you. It works for me and my friends. Extremely high compatibility so far.kidsampson wrote:I could never get the ESR process to work on my fat PS2. I've installed 1.5 and can get ULE up and working as well as hdloader, but regardless how I patch my backups or which ESR elf I use, nothing seems to work.
Version 9 of the ESR elf actually displays a message indicating where the ESR file can be downloaded for free, but goes to a black screen immediately afterwards. All incarnations of version 8 go immediately to the black screen, no color changing, no loading.
I've patched with both the patcher found on the site as well as the latest memento version. Is there some trick to loading these?
I load 1.5 to ULE. Put in my backup, and then load ESR.
I've also started with the disc in the console, as well as trying to run runme.elf before loading ESR. Nothing.
I've tried it from the usb stick, the memory card, and the hard drive. Tried disc control both on and off. Nada.
For Mozgus and others who have this working, does it seem as though I'm doing anything wrong? It is as simple as patching an image, burning the disc, and loading the elf, right? Have I overlooked anything?
By the way, I have a NTSC console.

The new splash screen added in beta 9? Yes I see it.kidsampson wrote:Thanks, I'll give it another go today. No reason it shouldn't work. Might have to pick up some new media, even though that I have now reads with Swap Magic and Cogswap. Thanks though.
Do you ever see the ESR screen I mentioned before loading?
Lemme know when you can boot a bunch of games stored on a hard drive easily.
Yes, I'm that lazy.

Really? I don't have one, but if it was that easy, I'd probably go for it.

I really love the support that FMCB and ESR have. If I hadn't bought a modchip already, I wouldn't need one (except for ps1 backups). I've already set up 6 of my friends with this handy exploit varying from fat to slim ps2s with absolutely no issues. Even for those with less homebrew inclination, autobooting ESR for backups is a joy for them.
I'm very interested to see where this goes from here. It's just too bad it surfaced so late in the PS2's life (although it could be a good thing).

1.6 is out. It's easier than ever to setup, and very newbie proof now that it has the 4 most popular homebrew tools right on the PS2 BIOS menu, which it can be set to automatically boot to no matter what disc is inserted, if you like. Just FYI to the new guys:
uLaunchElf: the operating system/file manager of sorts for PS2.
ESR: Plays patched backup games directly with no need for swapping.
HD Loader: Plays games off the installed hard drive
Simple Media System: Plays mp3, divx, and other media locally or via LAN.
