Hi,
I am new where but I couldn't let this go without saying one thing....

I am a long time gamer and have had almost every console at one time or another.
The BIGGEST failure I can remember throughout all these years is an EASY choice.

When the 3D0 was announced the gaming community was electrified. It seemed so powerful and so awesome that some of us could even accept its hefty 599 price tag. (without a game I might add).

Once launched the gilded 3D0 began to tarnish. Good games were few and far between and all very expensive. But then it seemed hope was found in a game that would give all of us the game we really wanted, a Mortal Kombat clone called "Way of the Warrior".
I remember reading the articles in Next magazine and in game stores everyone was talking about how great this game would be. It had to be great...it had everything we wanted.
Then it came out.

Now some might say that WOTW was not a failure if you look at the sales but I would argue that the hype surrounding this game was insane. Everyone thought it was going to be Mortal Kombat for the console masses.

The game looked ok, by the standards of the times, and the sound and design were good....there was just one problem, it was unplayable. The controls were horrible and the "collision detection" inaccurate and frustrating. The real shame is that if the gameplay issues were tweaked then the game would have been really great. Such a waste.

The 3D0 was in of itself a bit of a disappointment, but this "game" drove home the point to 3D0 owners that the system was never going to reach the heights we had hoped for.

I am an old man and that is my story, now get off my lawn

my girlfriend in high school had a 3D0. Or I mean, her family did in the living room. We played Tetris on it sometimes. It was pretty unremarkable. haha.

A rich friend of mine in high school had a 3DO and a bunch of games. I went over to his house back in 1995 and played them with him. I thought the 3DO sucked. He was offended. So instead we spent the rest of the day playing Battle Arena Toshinden on his brand new PlayStation. I did not think the PlayStation sucked.

Twenty three years later my opinion of both consoles remains the same.

The 3DO could have been good, but that price sucked, and sadly, most of the games sucked as well.

I got given a 3DO as a kid. It was probably at least 1997 at that point so it was a really cheap console on the second hand market.

I've never been a big fan of the console, outside of the amazing Road Rash, but I guess I have kind of a soft spot for it. What this TR poll hammers home though is that whilst there are several decent games for the system, they're basically all available on other platforms. As a system it's really not a must own because of that.

3DO was never going to deliver fast frame rates, sadly. Were it not for the slow frame buffer it might have had a chance.

Lucienne's Quest destroys most every JRPG released on the PSX and Saturn.

I got Virtual Boy Wario Land today and started wondering... why the hell weren't VB games released on the 3DS Virtual Console? Seems like a no-brainer.

Yeah the 3DO had a suggested retail price of $699.00 when it released in 1993. That's $1,207.00 in today's money.

Thankfully you can also play it on Saturn.

I think Nintendo would rather everyone forget about the Virtual Boy than re-release the games for its few dozen fans (myself included).

Not thankfully; it makes it inelligible for this event.
