I just want to defend the obscure SNES version. :P

I definitely want to play the PSP one sometime though.

Exhum, worth skimming through this.

I think the issue with slowdown is in the PSP version of Final Fantasy Tactics. Someone hacked the PSP game to remove the slowdown, and there's also a patch out there that inserts the script from the PSP version into the PSX version instead.

That's how I played the game when I beat it a few years ago. I had a good time.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Well there's definitely slowdown in PSX Tactics Ogre with the magic spells.

Maybe the PSP FFT script makes it better? I don't recall the original translation being bad or anything though. Just literally everything seems to fall apart in the last fourth of the game. Who was the final boss?

Final boss was the reincarnation of a saint who turned out to be a total bitch all this time. I think FFT's script mostly suffered from the massive information dumps going on; if you weren't keeping up with checking out the glossary you wouldn't be following the major players in the story.

So basically Necron.

Zeromus remains to be the only "out of nowhere" final boss that I love.

No, not as bad as Necron. There is build up to the final boss, it's just the full truth of the final boss is only revealed at the end.

Of the three Fire Emblem Super Famicom games, which is considered the most worthwhile? Also Romhacking only has one translation listed as finished (Monshou no Nazo) but isn't there one that was just finished for Thracia 776?

I'd say you can skip FE3 and instead play the two DS games. FE4 will give you the most unique experience (and the translation is 99% complete, I just played through it earlier this year). FE5 is closer to the more modern FEs but with ball crushing difficulty and the fatigue mechanic.
