Retro-Bit Generations
Re: Retro-Bit Generations
I'd call it at this rate an unacceptable purchase if they can't even get some 20+ year old basic games running at stable speeds, even among the same console no less.
Re: Retro-Bit Generations
Seriously, I updated last month and have had no issues(though haven't even bothered to see if hydlide works now which I doubt due to it's special nature) on the r5. Though it's been my Tales of Phantasia machine because of that...ExedExes wrote:Even now the latest Retron 5 update is absolutely rock solid. I've got no more problems with carts not being recognized and the fast boot is far better. All I'm seeing is problem after problem with this. I'm so glad I didn't rush out and get it. Still waiting to see if they give a damn about these speed/sound issues.

Re: Retro-Bit Generations
Got this for Christmas.
Oh dear. It SUCKS.
Shoddy emulation and bad sound is the least of our worries. The input lag is insane. Not only is there a delay of a half-second or so, but the buttons lack sensitivity. You need to firmly press one to get any response whatsoever.
Most everything feels unplayable to barely playable. The addition of some homebrews is pretty damn cool, but again, due to the shitty controls they can barely be played. I derped around with the system for a couple of hours last night and only got enjoyment out of Zooming Secretary. It's a solid homebrew that feels like an old black label NES game, and plays mostly fine as you only need to use the d-pad.
So yeah, this thing is rough. It appears that the game selection was changed at the last minute too, as the box is covered with sticks that obscure whatever had originally been displayed. The internet also reveals that the original box showed an arcade cabinet with Data East and Capcom logos; seems like the originally planned to have way more arcade ports on this.

Go here, make it far less shitty:

One simple microscopic file and you can throw a heap of games at it run right off the SD card the system never was intended to do. There are limits, but it opens a very wide door to select games that blow far less (and some that likely will run better too.)

Funny how it mentions Data East yet there's only one game by them on it. I heard that they don't plan on releasing firmware revisions to it; rather that a new version of the console is dropping sometime early next year. Nice work.

Re: Retro-Bit Generations
Amazon now has these for $36. Been thinking of taking the plunge. Maybe I should reread this thread to talk myself out of it.

You really don't want it. Do you enjoy input lag?

Some people just are into the video game equivalent of s&m, some more in depth than others.
