Raw Danger on PS2. It came from a smaller developer and probably never was promoted much. It has decent graphics, a good storyline and pretty solid game play. It won't set you on your ear, but it is a good game with few flaws you could pick out.
Futurama on PS2 is also a hoot, not because it is a great game but just because it is based on Futurama and uses the show's character voices. It plays okay and it generally a decent platformer, but the writing for the voice is almost as good as a solid episode of the show itself. (Well duh, I'm a big Futurama fan.)
Also not completely unknown, Heart of Darkness for PS1 was a far above average platformer. Has some excellent death cut scenes.
Randomly recommend an unknown or underrated game.

It's got a lot of trial and error, but I really enjoyed that one. Great animation. I managed to snag a legit copy not terribly long ago.Scooter wrote:Also not completely unknown, Heart of Darkness for PS1 was a far above average platformer. Has some excellent death cut scenes.

It can be harder to find. A number of years back a complete copy showed up at a local used game store which is typically picked over on the vintage stuff. I couldn't get to the counter and get my cc out fast enough when I found that one.Sarge wrote:It's got a lot of trial and error, but I really enjoyed that one. Great animation. My copy was somehow only priced at $5.99 complete.

For my next batch of PS1 imports, the genre I'm going with here is something I'd call a "runner". Maybe not the best description. But anyway, in these games you're constantly moving forward (on a cart or running) and have to avoid obstacles. If you've ever played Muscle March on WiiWare you know what I'm talking about.

Mad Panic Coaster | 1997
"Mad Panic Coaster is a 1997 Japan-only PlayStation release put out by an obscure company called Hakuhodo. It's one of the few (perhaps only?) console games dedicated one hundred percent to riding coasters. Technically, however, it plays more like a mine cart ride from a 3D platformer. The player has some freedom to steer around the track, and it's very easy to fall off. Each coaster exists in a themed world, including a beach, a forest, and the requisite ice level." http://www.destructoid.com/obscure-vide ... 6651.phtml

Love Love Truck | 1999
I haven't played this one, so I'm not sure what it's about. I'm pretty sure you are trying to survive a crazy minecart ride while also courting a potential love interest. I guess that's a reasonable first date.

Oh No! | 2000
You've got to help a bunch of bald little men wearing nothing but underwear survive a rampaging run through Japan. They need your help avoiding all sorts of things, especially proper clothing. Oh no? Oh Yes!

Gekisou TomaRunner | 1999
Here's a game where players compete in one-on-one footraces through cities, jungles, temples, and palaces. It supports split-screen.

Pepsiman | 1999
Pepsiman wants you to drink his sticky dark nectar. He made it for you. Suck it down. Or he will run through your city and cause mayhem and attract inappropriate stares at his bum.

Running High | 1997
In the future athletes wear protective clothing and get high as fizzuck and then run like crazy bastards. Up walls, around curves, fast fast fast until their knees blow out. You know how it be. Don't act like you've never done this.

Incredible Crisis on PS1 is an odd but very fun game. Mr. Mosquito on PS2 is a hoot too.

Good lord is there some rule that states that Japan-only PSX games must have terrible cover art?

There is, along with the rule that every Nintendo eShop game I download goes on sale within a month of my purchase.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Good lord is there some rule that states that Japan-only PSX games must have terrible cover art?
