Comfort Games
Re: Comfort Games
I'll add on Super Hang-On, the circuit mode, not the arcade mode. It's laid back a bit more, but is still Super Hang-On fun. It's basically an RPG mode of riding a bike, and winning isn't always the goal. So it's a relaxed version of an intense game that takes hours upon hours to complete.

There's just too many for me to play but not enough time to play them all...[.] However, I've found that it's very rare for a game to keep my attention for more than an hour at a time (I unfortunately get distracted VERY easily) so I'll mention the ones that I've easily been able to play for many hours at a time....
You're my twin.
Accordingly:
Small World 2
Ticket to Ride
Catan
Talisman Digital
O-chan no Oekaki Logic (WS) Meteos (DS) and other puzzle games
Animal Crossing (GC and Wii)
Monster World IV (Gen)
Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Gen)
Rockman Mega World (Gen)
Suikoden 1/2/3 (PS1/2)
BoF V: Dragon Quarter (PS2)
Napple Tale (DC)
Shenmue /II (DC)
Space Channel 5 /pt 2 (DC) Samba De Amigo (DC) and other rhythm/music games
Outrun 2 in various releases
An unrelated anecdote about Meteos: In college, my roommate and I would play the wireless single-card vs mode all the time, with some really heated matches. This apparently wasn't enough for him, so he (and my girlfriend at the time) would borrow my game to try to beat my single stage records. The records would bounce back and forth all the time. Similar scenario briefly arose from Mr Driller: Drill Spirits, as well. Ah, puzzle games.

^Nice. Well, maybe not so nice since I know I don't like being super distracted but w/e lol.
Also, how good is your Japanese? I'm asking cause I thought Napple Tale was Japanese only... (unless it got a translation patch?)

Re: Comfort Games
Good, to near native. Napple Tale was Japan only, yeah. No idea if there's a translation patch. The characters and story are pretty good, with the exception of Stray Nap. There's a lot lost without being able to follow the story, especially in the Fall area. It's a relaxing game that's somewhat similar to Klonoa in terms of game play and aesthetic. Although it probably had half the budget. Hard to say if I'd really recommend it to others. Would probably depend on what it goes for these days.

Re: Comfort Games
The Mass Effect series would be one for me. I'm only on my second playthrough, but the games just work so well for me, despite their quirks.
I'll always have a special place of interest for LoZ:TP just because it was the first Zelda I played through. Love that game to bits, even if it is arguably one of the worst overall Zelda titles.
And the more old school, more farming focused Harvest Moons. Make me think of home, even though I haven't left yet.
I'm sure I'll develop other games I feel this way as I get older and play more. I've honestly been more into gaming and gotten more out of it since going to college, for some odd reason. Think it's the surplus of time I personally have, the lack of friends, and my ability to keep up with things outside of a small subset going to shit while at school.

Re: Comfort Games
Zelda 1
Castlevania 3 (reeeeallly just the Clock Tower level)
Castlevania SotN
Dr Mario
Super Mario World
Those are the ones I come back to time and again, though I very rarely beat CV3, just love the Clock Tower and maaaybe messing around with Grant a little ways after that. Rarely even make it to Alucard. And obviously Dr Mario isn't technically "beatable" though I'll often get to level 25 which is kinda like beating it? The other 3 I'll crush though, happily, time and again.

Re: Comfort Games
I hear you, pierrot! Catan on the 360 has become one of my go-tos.
I like trading all of one resource away, using the monopoly to get it all back, and then offering to trade that resource again. Having the CPU characters throw fireballs at me is so satisfying.

Re: Comfort Games
You can throw fireballs in the 360 version?
I usually have the misfortune of trying to make sure I have a steady supply of wheat, and getting screwed out of it through die rolls. Catan is hard--. I really prefer stuff like Puerto Rico and 7 Wonders, but every now and again I just have to get a game of Catan in.

Re: Comfort Games
Wheat? Who's wheat starved? I mean... Brick, I get always needing. Ore's another one that's often hard to get.... but Wheat? Consistently? Weird.
(I've played lots and lots of Catan over the years -- the board game, not the electronic version)
