Hahaha, not at all. I just manage to find some enjoyment out of stuff other people revile. It lets me know if the game really is as poor in quality as the masses think, and I often find some piece that is actually pretty nifty. I also think it makes me better all around at games.

Ballz 3D isn't that bad of a game.
CFFJR wrote:This might ruffle some feathers, but Diablo 2. I want to beat it so I can say I have, but for all its legendary status, I find the game to be kinda boring. Beat the game on normal, get loot. Move on to the next difficulty, get loot. Play the next next difficulty, get loot. Continue until you puke. Max level! Get loot! Start over!

Yeah I'm simplifying a helluva lot, but what I'm getting at is I play Diablo 2 and find myself thinking, "What's the point?" That's not a good sign. The isometric perspective doesn't help.
It's better with friends. Since only my wife is game to play with me these days, I've been looking for some mods for it. I just mentioned that in the WRPG thread a couple days ago, and MrPopo responded with a suggestion and a link.

I had a lot of fun with Diablo 3 when it came out, but I can bet you five Mario coins I never would have finished it solo. Dungeon crawlers are definitely way more fun with friends, even just one other player. I've played Diablo 2 in the past with friends, but we never finished it (for a funny side note, it's a recurring joke with my friend I played with to this day, that I didn't realize there were different skill "trees" in the menu when leveling up, hahaha).

But yeah, that said dungeon crawlers almost fall into the same light I see MMO's in. Can be very fun, but for only a week or two and then I'm pretty bored because all you play for is loot.

...I already have. When you get through to the end, the final boss character transforms your character, and you then start over again from the beginning.

Myself and two others put about 12 hours into that game local co-op. We quit out of utter boredom, despite really trying to be into it. The game was piss easy even at "hard" difficulty, and it just felt pointless and monotonous in the extreme. I know a lot of people love Diablo 3, but we just couldn't get excited about it. It seemed to be designed for grinding for loot drops and that was about it.

What are your feelings on Doom, Painkiller, and Serious Sam?

^ I think that's still a little subjective. I'm a Serious Sam fan but always lose steam pretty quickly in. Never really cared for Painkiller. I don't really like most modern FPS's that are like this stuff.

Doom is basically something I play about yearly in some form and I couldn't even tell you how many times I've beaten the official games and how many mega WAD's I've played. Probably top 5 material for me going on 20 some years now.

There's just something different between Painkiller, Serious Sam, etc vs Doom, Quake, and Unreal to me.

I have to assume the correlation you're making there is that those games do one thing, and they do it well, and people who love those games love them for that one thing.

If that's the case, yes Diablo 3 does loot grinding extremely well. And if someone is really into loot grinding, Diablo 3 is a great choice. Personally there are other aspects of an RPG that I'm looking for when I'm playing one, and Diablo 3 did not fulfill those aspects in the slightest. So it just wasn't an engaging experience for me (or the other two people playing it with me).

I was actually making a correlation between Diablo 3's "kill tons of dudes all the time" and the similar sort of gameplay in Serious Sam and Painkiller (to a lesser extent in Doom). Though you're right, Diablo 3 does one thing and does it well. If you're looking for something else I obviously wouldn't expect you to enjoy it.
