You guys do realize that technology tends to get more powerful over time. The only way to ensure you get the best of anything is to wait until a full generational revision.

Sure, but in the past Nintendo hasn't left the previous iterations within the same generation behind (in terms of access to new games) when adding larger, brighter screens and other hardware changes. I'm annoyed that there will be games coming out that I won't be able to play: it is as simple as that.

I've always thought of the GBC an entirely new generation, distinct from the GB/GB Pocket since it had its own library.

Nobody would feel burned if the 3DS had 9 years of prime time before the New 3DS came out. The 3DS was released in 2011, the New 3DS comes out in 2014. That's only 3 years of prime time, kinda stings. Especially if you only recently jumped on board with the 3DS XL in 2012.

Gameboy color had a slightly stronger CPU, better battery life, slightly improved screen, came with a variety of body colors / patterns, and was able to play all GB games as well as GBC software that was exclusive to the new platform.

The New3DS has a slightly stronger CPU, better battery life, slightly improved screen, will come with swappable plates with a variety of colors / patterns, and will be able to play all 3DS games as well as New3DS software that will be exclusive to the new platform.

I'm totally in for one New XL. If it were region free I'd just import one when they come out.

I guess I'll just sit on my thumbs a bit longer instead of replacing my red XL in the next month like I had planned.

Although Nintendo tried it with the DSi, I wonder if they'll more strongly commit to this sort of idea. Tablets like the iPad and iPhone do it. They retain backwards compatibility and have incremental feature upgrades, but a lot of new software requires the newest version.

So after doing some research, yeah it is a bit dumb what is being done. I am not going to get the system until much later in life, if at all. I see this as a DSi. It has a few exclusives and not much else. The C-stick doesn't look that comfy to me and I have Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, so that isn't a driving factor.

More of a wait and see situation for me.
