Re: 3DS XL vs. Vita
This is a tough one for me. I prefer the Vita hardware and design over the 3DS.
If just based on retail releases, I like the 3DS library more. But if you include PSN+ free games, ps1 classics, and psp games (mostly upgraded on the vita) then the Vita closes the gap.

I'm saying as far as genre goes. I mean if you love FPS or hack-n-slash games, Vita is gonna kill the 3DS as far as choice goes and the opposite is true for the 3DS in other genres.EvilRyu2099 wrote:No I like the top titles in the Vita library moreso than the 3DS library.. But I think this is a situation where quantity rules over quality for me.. Plus games like Fire Emblem, Pokemon and Monster Hunter 3/4 are almost if not on par with the P4 Goldens, Ragnorak Odysseys, Dragon's Crowns, Ys and Gravity Rushs that the Vita offers..Stark wrote:I think this is all going to come down to the kind of handheld games you're into, personally. I could easily make a case for one or the other over the opposite, based on the games you like.EvilRyu2099 wrote:I'm a partial to Sony, but I think the 3DS blows away the Vita library.. Just MO..

I'd say both are pretty close in RPGs..

Will the Vita be able to cross play PS4 games w/out you having to own a Vita copy?

Re: 3DS XL vs. Vita
disregarding any backwards compatibility, there's a reason I chose 3DS over Vita. There's a lot of 3DS games that interested me personally, and very few Vita exclusives that could convince me to spend money on one.
Now DS bc is certainly a huge plus, the same way Vita has PSP/PS1/PS2(?) stuff to play on it. BUT, just talking Vita library vs. 3DS library, it was an easy choice for me.

Yes, it just streams what ever is playing on your PS4. You don't need to buy the same game twice. It is like the Wii-U controller except long distance.oxymoron wrote:Will the Vita be able to cross play PS4 games w/out you having to own a Vita copy?

Is this a good deal? It's a big purchase so I thought I'd get a 2nd opinion. The box does kind of bother me though.

Re: 3DS XL vs. Vita
Ah now I don't have to make a thread about this. I too am wondering what to buy, since it's getting to be that time of year when stores/pawn shops have sales. And this time I actually have a bit of money to treat myself.
I wasn't too happy with the PSP when I first bought it, it's ok but nothing ground breaking. Same with the DS...I have a love hate relationship with the DS. Some games on it are wonderful, but it has a library of shit kid games and shovelware. Also the touch pen...I hate that fucking thing. I hated it when I first got my new DS and I hate it even more now since I misplaced my original DS somewhere in our basement so I bought a used one at a yard sale for like 5 bucks and the screen is all scratched to shit. It was cheap so not complaining much, but obviously those pens scratch the damn screen, the fuck was Nintendo thinking?
Anyways back on topic. I'm not a fan of 3D anything, but you can turn it off so that's a plus. I'd really only be getting the 3DS for the games, so I can play this gen's games and my old DS games. I'm not going to get the XL, since I don't see the point really, and I don't want to spend a bunch of money on a system I might not like. I just wonder is it worth getting a 3DS for the games, or instead to spend that money on buying games for retro consoles I all ready have?
I'm not exactly impressed with this gen's consoles, so no way in hell am I getting the PS4 or Xbox One. So it's really a matter of do I want to stay with consoles I know, or spring for a new one that I may or may not like?
Oh and bigger question, when buying a used 3DS (since I will not buy a new one), is there anything obvious I should know? Besides looking for screen scratches and if the damn thing works?

If you aren't happy with the PSP or DS, you won't like their successors.
