Do We Really Want a Dreamcast 2?
Re: Do We Really Want a Dreamcast 2?
I would like to see Sega launch a line of games under the Dreamcast brand. They would be games meant to capture some of that magic... on other platforms. Either enhanced re-releases or new titles that are sequels or share a particular aesthetic.

As a Sega fan I see no reason for them to return to hardware. Today's Sega is not the same company it once was and it never will be again. Even if they had the talent they don't have the money necessary to compete.
While I'd like to see some of Sega's franchises make a return and be handled with care and respect, Sega as a home console developer is a past that's far behind them.
There's also the fact that the things that made Sega's consoles great for a lot of retro gamers are very arcadey and thus niche by today's standards. What would a new Sega console be? What would set it apart from its competition? Would the things that made Sega what it was translate well in today's market?
A small scale Android device is reasonable maybe, but do we really need another one of those?

Sadly, I think you're right. The window for Sega as a hardware company has passed.
I would have liked to think that a small, relatively inexpensive Android-based box might sell ok - primarily as a platform for indie games, many of which have an old-school look and feel. But the flop of Ouya has me re-thinking that one.
That was the only avenue to new hardware for Sega that I ever saw and I'm not sure there is really any significant market for that with Live/PSN/eShop/PC services that seem to cover that gap pretty well.
Have: Sega Genesis, SNES, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari 800XL, PC, N3DS XL, Wii U, GBA, Xbox One, Switch

A very valid point that this isnt the same Sega as before. Not arguing that at all. However, i think more so Sega doesnt have the $$ and the brand awareness, respect (yep respect) that it once had in the video game market. Though most of the people(studios) from the 90s and early part of 00's are gone, Sega is still a video game company with a sizable back catalog of games that can choose from. Some internal as well as some acquired game developers and or affiliates. Its a smaller Sega so they wont be able to crank out a huge # of games and maybe they wont be as original (quirky) as back in the day Sega we loved. Kids under 25 will just recognize Sega as Daddys console and wont even consider buying one. As sad at it is the Dreamcast was Sega's last shot and I believe even they knew it back then. As a side not i hate you SONY>>>

Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast
